Extremely disappointing stay — would not recommend
After a very long drive through France, arriving at Le Grand Hôtel was an unnecessarily stressful experience. We were told that the barrier providing access to the entrance was not working, so we couldn't drive up to unload our luggage and had to find somewhere nearby to park instead.
Once inside, we were then told that there would be no running water in the hotel the following day, with no clear indication of when it would be restored. This is hardly a minor inconvenience — running water is a basic requirement of a hotel.
What made this even more disappointing was the hotel's attitude towards the situation. There was no offer of compensation, partial refund or any meaningful attempt to make amends. When we asked about a refund, we were told that it was unlikely and difficult for the hotel to authorise. Considering the circumstances, this was an extremely poor response.
Already exhausted from the journey and not wanting to spend the evening arguing with reception, we went to our room. Unfortunately, the room itself revealed further problems.
The shower bracket was barely hanging on, there was no soap in the shower dispenser, and there was no proper shower rail or facility for hanging wet towels. We had to resort to hanging towels over doors and chairs. And when we did have water, the water was brown.

At this point, it was difficult to understand what we were actually paying for. A hotel can have occasional maintenance problems, but this was a collection of very basic issues, combined with a significant loss of an essential service and, most disappointingly, very little evidence of genuine concern from the hotel about the inconvenience caused to its guests.
This was a terrible start to our stay and an extremely disappointing experience overall. We would not recommend Le Grand Hôtel and, based on this experience, would definitely not stay here again.
For the price and the standard one would reasonably expect, this simply wasn't good enough.
