My parents and I returned to Guangzhou for Chinese New Year, and this time we chose the Indigo, an IHG hotel. It's nestled in a quiet part of Haixinsha Park East, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the bustle. As soon as you step out, you're greeted by views of the 'Canton Tower' (Xiao Man Yao) and the sparkling nightscape of Zhujiang New Town. Flower City Square, Guangzhou Opera House, Guangdong Museum, and Liede Street are all within walking distance. Cross Haixin Bridge, and you're directly at the Canton Tower on the opposite bank.
The hotel's design concept is fantastic, and the room layout is well-thought-out. The entire hotel is infused with vibrant Lingnan art elements and unique color schemes. The lobby features a Haixinsha-inspired design and a classic vintage car from the Republic of China era. During our stay for Chinese New Year, the festive decorations added to the wonderful atmosphere. The front desk staff were incredibly nice and efficient during check-in. We arrived early, and our room wasn't ready yet, but they kindly stored our luggage for free. We received a call shortly after to let us know our room was prepared.
The room itself was spacious with a very comfortable sofa and unique throw pillows. The bedding was cozy, and the hotel thoughtfully provided complimentary Lingnan-style pastries. The mini-fridge was stocked with three different flavors of Asia brand soda, which brought back childhood memories. I was delighted to find a De'Longhi kettle – a brand I love! The room's facilities were also very modern: the TV could swivel, was high-definition, supported screen mirroring, and had a USB port. A Marshall speaker was also provided, offering excellent sound! The bathtub was fantastic too!
When I booked, I specifically requested a quiet corner room, and they certainly honored that. With the curtains drawn and the balcony door closed, it was the perfect sanctuary for an introvert to spend a week. The hotel isn't a traditional high-rise; instead, it comprises several separate smaller buildings set amidst beautiful surroundings with many large trees. There were even birds nesting in the trees, making it a truly charming place I'd love to revisit.
The breakfast offered a great selection of Cantonese dim sum and dishes. The staff were exceptionally attentive; seeing we had elderly parents with us, they thoughtfully and proactively helped us select suitable local specialties. In the elevator, there were clear indications of peak times for the restaurant (comfortable, few people, busy), allowing guests to plan their visit accordingly. While the variety at the restaurant might not be extensive, it covered both Chinese and Western options, including traditional Guangzhou delicacies. Even the coffee machines were modern capsule types.
