NIHI Sumba is not simply a hotel stay — it is an experience, and one that we will never forget. From the very first moment we arrived, the level of service was exceptional. Every detail is taken care of with genuine warmth and attention, making you feel incredibly welcome and looked after without ever feeling intrusive. A very special mention has to go to our Guest Kaptens, Upi, Rue and Domi. We honestly could not have wished for better people to take care of us during our stay. They were always attentive to everything we needed, often anticipating things before we even had to ask, and constantly surprising us with thoughtful details that went far beyond our expectations. I celebrated my birthday during our stay, and both the hotel and our Kaptens made it truly unforgettable. They surprised us with a beautiful flower bath and an incredible night under the stars — moments that I will remember forever. A special mention also goes to Lina, the yoga teacher, with whom we had a beautiful Reiki with Horses session. We absolutely loved the experience and her wonderful energy made it even more special. One of the things that makes NIHI particularly special, however, is that the experience goes far beyond luxury. Through The Sumba Foundation, we had the privilege of being invited by the hotel to join one of their visits to Yara Wora village. During the morning, the team checked on the health and wellbeing of the local horses and buffaloes and provided them with vitamins and care where needed. We were able to spend time with the local community, visit their homes and get a glimpse into their daily lives. What touched us most was seeing how comfortable and genuinely happy the villagers seemed to be around the NIHI team. It did not feel like a staged tourist experience at all, but rather like being invited to witness a real and meaningful relationship that has been built over time. It was without a doubt one of the most special experiences of our trip. As animal and horse lovers, their welfare was also very important to us, and we were extremely happy to see how well cared for NIHI’s horses are. The horses at the resort are beautifully looked after, and the Spa Safari area is simply breathtaking. Even the retired horses living there are clearly cared for with the same attention and respect. Our villa was beautiful, immaculate and perfectly maintained throughout our stay. The surroundings, the nature, the horses, the experiences and, above all, the people make this place incredibly difficult to describe until you experience it yourself. NIHI manages to combine extraordinary luxury with authenticity, nature, local culture and a genuine sense of connection. You don’t simply leave feeling that you stayed at an amazing hotel — you leave feeling that you experienced something truly special. A little piece of our hearts will stay in Sumba. NIHI Sumba is definitely a unique destination. It is tucked away in the south of Sumba island, a one hour away by plane from Denpasar. Once landed on the island, the resorts picked us up for a 1.5 hour car ride to the hotel. The resort guaranteed us a very smooth and easy transfer. The environnement is breathtaking, with incredibly blue waters. It is very organic and feels quite wild, from the fierce ocean waves crashing into the sand to the famous NIHI horses walking on the beach. The villa is lovely, the view on the sea is beautiful and we were able to perfectly witness the sunset. It was a shame that during our stay the direct access to the beach from our villa was under maintenance. We chose the villa for this feature and were sort of disappointed. The bathroom was quite large and comfortable. One of the resort’s strengths is the effort put into the planned activities. Over the 5 days stay, I haven’t left a single time the resort and haven’t felt even a little bit bored. Each day the resort has planned events for the guests. The most memorable one was the horses race on the beach at sunset with the nearby village kids. The staff also released baby turtles into the ocean at the same time. Food options are a little bit more restricted, with one restaurant opened at a time, although the menu is quite varied. Buffet nights happen on Saturdays; we also enjoyed a barbecue evening. Breakfast was quite enjoyable and healthy. I especially loved the banana pancakes. Service was very kind, attentive and friendly. We had two butlers attending us during the whole stay, they were very nice and helpful . The resort spa is located 15mins away by car (or 2 hours away through a trail). The property feels quite lush, you get to walk up to the spa lobby by crossing rice fields. However, the treatment quality varies from therapist to therapist. You can also ask for spa massages in-villa - this time the therapist that I had was absolutely wonderful. Overall a very wonderful stay. The experience was very unique, I left with a lot of memories.

This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had! We came here for 4 days for our honeymoon and felt fully taken care of by Upi, Putri and the entire NIHI staff. The surf was incredible and good, drinks and massages were even better! Will definitely be coming back as soon as we can.

We stayed at NIHI Sumba from September 5–9 and had such a wonderful and memorable experience. From the stunning surroundings to the incredible activities, delicious food, and warm hospitality, everything made our stay truly special. A special thank you to our housekeeping team — Ayu, Indah, and Simson — who took such great care of us throughout the entire stay. Their service was thoughtful, attentive, and always delivered with so much warmth. They also helped arrange our daily itineraries, and even when there were changes along the way, they coordinated everything smoothly and efficiently. We really appreciated how flexible and accommodating they were. We loved all the activities we participated in. Visiting the Sumba Foundation was especially meaningful and gave us a deeper understanding of the local community. The sunset horse riding was another unforgettable highlight, and the Spa Safari was such an unexpected and unique experience. By the end of the trip, we felt completely recharged and refreshed. The dining was also fantastic. We had amazing dinners at Ombak and NIO, and the food was consistently delicious. Every staff member we met was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel well taken care of. Overall, NIHI Sumba was the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation, great food, and exceptional service. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable.

It was our first time in Nihi Sumba and we already can’t wait to be back. This place is not only about the beautiful villas, amazing design of the property it is more then anything about the beautiful people who works there that make it a real unique destination. The 2km private beach is something you can’t really experience it anywhere in the world, paradise for surfer and a joy for people who love animals as you are sorrounded by beautiful horses in the beach property. A special shout out to our Captains Mrs Asna and Mrs Lian for helping us in arranging anything we needed. Thanks to Davano for bringing us in a beuatiful trekking to the amazing Spa. Dina at the spa was fantastic as well as the 2 spa therapist we had. Thanks to Vincent at the pool area for welcoming always us with a big smile and assisting. Thanks to Mr Arifin at dinner was assisting us and he was truly amazing. Thanks Mr Rikal at the horse riding for letting us have an amazing horse ride on the beach.
