We booked a 3-bedroom private pool villa at De Ubud Villas & Spa as a special family holiday with our daughter and granddaughter. This was a trip we had saved for a long time and were looking forward to as a luxury escape in Bali. Unfortunately, the experience started badly from the moment we arrived. We discovered that the villa we had booked had not been allocated to us, and we were initially provided with a different villa that did not include the private pool we had specifically booked and paid for. We were then left waiting for approximately three hours while the correct villa was supposedly being prepared. During this time, there appeared to be around seven staff members cleaning and preparing the villa, yet we still had to ask after more than two and a half hours whether it was ready. We were then advised that only part of the villa was available and that the upstairs area required a further 30 minutes of preparation. When we finally gained access to the villa, it was difficult to understand why so much time and effort had been spent preparing it, as it was still in a condition that we considered completely unacceptable for paying guests. We genuinely did not feel comfortable staying there in its initial state. We encountered live ants on the mosquito netting, dirty mosquito nets covered in dead insects, stained bedding, animal droppings on a mat, a dirty bathroom with dead insects everywhere, dirty shower screens, filthy linen baskets, a leaking refrigerator, hot water issues and an air-conditioning unit that was leaking large amounts of water onto the lounge area. Overall, the villa presented as poorly maintained and insufficiently cleaned prior to our arrival and after cleaning. When we complained, the manager agreed that the villa was not suitable for staying in. He gave us access to the Pool and another villa to stay in, which was ok but not what we had paid for. To the resort's credit, they provided complimentary breakfasts during our stay and one free night's accommodation as compensation. They also offered an additional free night with breakfast to be used on a future visit. While we appreciate these gestures, we did not feel that they adequately compensated for the disruption, disappointment, and loss of enjoyment we experienced. Although we remained at the property for the duration of our stay because we couldn't find another accommodation in such a short period of time with three bedrooms and a pool, it never lived up to the standard promoted as a luxury escape. The property felt tired, run-down, and in need of significant maintenance and refurbishment. It simply did not reflect the premium experience that had been advertised and sold to us. One aspect of our stay that we found unusual was that we did not see another guest at the resort during the entire week. While there may be perfectly reasonable explanations for this, it contributed to the feeling that the property was not operating at the standard or level of activit
