Shogawa Onsen Yumetsuzuri

The hotel was unforgettable. Even the most basic set meal we chose for our one-night stay with two meals was surprisingly delicious. Enjoying the all-you-can-eat breakfast through floor-to-ceiling windows, surrounded by a snowy courtyard view, was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. The breakfast side dishes and rice were varied, and the Toyama specialties were definitely worth trying. The presentation was exquisite, almost too beautiful to eat – everything was thoughtfully crafted. We didn't book a private bath because the view from the public bath was even more stunning! There were very few guests, making the snow-covered onsen (hot spring) a must-try! As it's a secluded paradise, be prepared for limited English from the staff; bring a translation app – everything will be fine, and the staff will be very helpful! If you're planning a cruise on the Shokawa Gorge, don't miss this hotel!

The hot spring hotel was very clean and hygienic, but its location was remote.

Except for the price and the lack of places to eat, everything else is fine.

I visited this inn just because I wanted to enjoy cherry blossom viewing in an open-air bath. It is located along the Shogawa River near Gokayama, and I was greeted by cherry blossoms in full bloom in front of the entrance. The clear stream can be seen from the window of the room, but it is a little disappointing that the stone bank of the dam is in view. As soon as I checked in, I took a bath while admiring the cherry blossoms in full bloom. In addition to the "Hana-no-yu" and "Yume-no-yu" (alternate for men and women) set in the garden, where you can feel one with nature, there is also a private family bath. After the bath, they serve matcha tea and sweets, which I enjoyed in a corner of the garden with cherry blossoms in bloom. As the name "Mido-zashiki" suggests, the dinner was high-quality and elaborate. The sashimi was fresh seafood caught in Toyama Bay, the shrimp sashimi with sea urchin was quite delicious, and the koshihikari rice cooked in a stove was also good. The only disappointment was that the dining room was empty, and a group of guests made a seat right next to me, which made it a little noisy and made it difficult to concentrate on the meal. It may be easy to serve the food, but I wish they would give it a little more thought.
