The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai

I had an amazing stay at The Yangtze. I arrived early and was able to check in before the scheduled time which was really appreciated after travelling over 14 hours. Location: the hotel is very close to people square station, the bund and nanjing road. Amenities: received welcome drinks, fruits, a voucher to obtain dessert and a little box of chocolate. Breakfast had a good choice of traditional and western options. Cons: unable to adjust the temperature in the room and it felt very warm at times I would stay here again.

Very nice boutique hotel in a perfect location. They even give you a little snack on arrival.

Gem of a boutique hotel with polite counter and wait staff located just steps from Nanjing Road East which is the main shopping district - a straight road down to The Bund, the famous waterfront district with beautiful buildings both colonial and modern lit up at night along the river. Hotel serves a good variety of Chinese breakfast items like noodle soup, dumpling soup, fried rice or noodles, fried potstickers (gyoza in Japanese / guotie in Mandarin), steamed dim sum, char siew pau or cha sao bao (sweet BBQ diced roast pork steamed buns), soya milk, 4 cooked dishes, two types of rice porridge with condiments and adequate western offerings like eggs to order, bacon, sausages, baked beans, pastries and toast, breakfast spreads, salad, cheeses, yoghurt, hash brown and choc mousse and cakes. Good variety of of fruits, juices, teas and good coffee served too. The free mini bar w Perrier, Oolong tea, 2 cans soft drinks and local beer was appreciated. It was topped up each time the housekeeper came to freshen up the room although the booking said "one time free mini bar". The cleanliness in the room was top - not a stray hair nor any debris left behind by a previous guest, no dust on any surface (and the room is big with good sized furniture at 44m2) and the bathroom was sparkling clean. The towels and.sheets were pristine. Bathroom amenities were basic (toothbrush and comb) but the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were by Karl Lagerfeld. Small packet of detergent was provided too. Lovely stay with comfortable bed and smooth bedlinens. The only gripe was that the duvet was down filled which was too heavy for the 30 to 34 deg weather and was too warm despite the air conditioning. As for the soft furnishings, the light coloured carpet is quite spotted and stained in some areas but wearing the slippers provided gave some protection to the feet. The slippers were luxe with thick foam soles and woven material and I didnt need a change of slippers for all 6 days of my stay. I will return!

Best part is the location and quiet, comfortable rooms. It is quite newly decorated although the carpets are already a bit stained. Bathrooms are spacious with huge bathtub. Breakfast has decent variety. Lobby is small, we had afternoon tea included but need to book, so the staff packed us cakes to takeaway instead.
