Block Island Beach House

For the price, understanding that it is a summer resort Island. But the room they showed us in October was beautiful compared to the sparse room we were in. Steep stairs to our room, no coffee in room, no complimentary breakfast. We have been coming to the Surf Hotel through all the owners for at least 40 years.We will not be coming back.

Nothing did not see any staff until we had to leave after first day as had a health emergency back on the mainland . Were booked for five days. Told them we had to leave because. of said emergency. Front desk said don’t worry will take care of it. Called back after a couple of days. We were told they couldn’t help us. Call your booking agent. That same day got couple of notifications to please rate our stay. The stay we were fully charged for and were offered zero help with.

The location was great and being right on the beach was lovely. The staff were all young but very helpful, especially Sonia at the front desk. However, the place does not look like the pictures. The rooms are ridiculously small for the price. You could barely walk around the bed (which had a lumpy mattress). The bathroom was spacious but the sink was tiny, making it difficult to not get water all over the floor. Although the room was clean, it was overall damp (including the rug that constantly felt wet). We also had to climb two flights of steep stairs (no elevator!) to our room. The beach area is small and there was a limited number of lounge chairs available. There was a stack of extras and I was told they were all broken. I know most of the hotels on Block Island are expensive but this didn't seem worth the price.

It was our first time to BI and I decided to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The BIBH was amazing from our accommodations to the staff and of course the private beach area. The charm of the island and the amazing folks at the Beach House will bring us back again. Thanks

The main point is for the cost we were expecting a luxury boutique hotel - the hotel is RUNDOWN, the walls of our room looked like we were living in a half finished renovation, the bedding was sub-par polyester duvet and pillow stuffing, the paint everywhere was peeling from ceilings inside and out on the deck, on the windowpanes, and edges of doors were all scuffed, the plastic plant at the top of the stairs had a jute covering falling off it the 3 days were there. Our bathroom was modern but the funky sin is near impossible to brush your teeth at as either you hit your head on the shelf above the sink to get close enough or you end up spitting your toothpaste on the floor. The whole place needs a major renovation and at over $1000 CAD /night - not even including breakfast - it was a complete let down and rip-off. It was supposed to be a special birthday 2 nights as a couple and we did not even want to eat dinner at the hotel because of the standards we could see. When I checked out I asked if they were starting a renovation because I felt like we were staying in one, the desk clerk agreed with me! A huge disappointment.

Upon arrival with a 2 person reservation, we were told we could only have 1 key. There were no towels in the bathroom and we were eventually told after 3 phone calls that they had no towels to give us. There was trash left under the bed. The manager was unavailable and clearly did not care.

We had a great stay at the Block Island Beach house. Loved sitting on the front porch in the morning with a cup of coffee and sitting on the beach with complementary beach chairs and umbrellas. Although the room was small, it was super quaint, and the bathroom was immaculate. We also enjoyed the oceanview. We will definitely return!

Location, clean and staff was nice . We stayed in the gothic ( I think that’s the name)house , just down the street. Still nice and quaint! A few inconveniences like a wine cooler for a refrigerator, no microwave, dead bugs on window treatments and no counter space in bathroom but would still recommend!

Really nice hotel. Had an ocean view room that was a little smaller than expected, but luckily we spent most of the time exploring. We will gladly book the balcony room next time! Lovely staff, great restaurant on premise, and there is a 2 bars you can order from near the outdoor lounge area.
