Mandarin Oriental Pudong Shanghai

While strolling along the Bund in Pudong during spring, I was instantly captivated by the Mandarin Oriental's exterior – particularly the cherry blossoms blooming beneath the trees. This time, I specifically chose the Mandarin Oriental, and the experience was excellent. Upon check-in, Lucky at the front desk kindly upgraded us to a river-view room for free, allowing us to witness the Huangpu River and the Oriental Pearl Tower transform under different lights each day. The hotel breakfast offered a wide variety of choices; the organic oat cup was a pleasant surprise (here, I'd suggest the hotel prioritize ingredient quality over simply offering many options for breakfast). During our stay, we encountered a guest in the adjacent room smoking. The hotel's response was incredibly prompt, placing four air purifiers in the hallway and our room. They also repeatedly checked in with us to ensure the issue was properly resolved. In contrast, during a previous stay at another five-star hotel in Shanghai with a similar situation, I was told, 'The hotel is quite helpless when guests smoke with their doors open, so you'll just have to tolerate it yourselves.' Upon checkout, David, the duty manager, apologized again and even presented us with a lovely small gift, which our child absolutely adored! Throughout our stay, the housekeeping, concierge, and luggage services were all exceptionally attentive. Highly recommend!

I frequently stay at the Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai, and the Executive Lounge experience is always exceptional. A special shout-out goes to Alaia, one of the lounge staff members. The lounge environment is elegant and quiet, and the food quality is consistently good. Breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening happy hour all offer a rich variety of options. The overall facilities and atmosphere maintain the Mandarin Oriental's consistently high standards. However, what truly elevated this stay was Alaia's professional and heartwarming service. She was gentle and courteous, quick to respond, attentive to guests' needs, and handled everything with thoroughness and care. Whether it was looking after us during meals or communicating about other matters, she handled it gracefully and efficiently, with just the right touch. All the staff members here are very enthusiastic, making the experience excellent! 👍 An outstanding hotel isn't just about its facilities; the warmth of its staff is its most valuable asset. Thank you, Alaia, for your dedicated service, which significantly enhanced my entire stay. Next time I'm in Shanghai, the Mandarin Oriental Pudong will still be my top choice, and I highly recommend everyone try the Executive Lounge.

First off, let me talk about the hotel's Chinese restaurant. I've already posted a review on Dazhong Dianping, and it was excellent. In fact, that dinner made up for some of the minor discomforts during my stay. Perhaps because land is so expensive in Shanghai, the hotel lobby felt quite small and, with many guests, it seemed crowded and chaotic upon entering. The staff, however, were very friendly and even upgraded us to a river view room, which I really appreciated. The same goes for the housekeeping staff; they were all great. Here are a few points of discomfort: 1. Tissue paper was only available in the bathroom, which was inconvenient. 2. The bathroom was small, and it was impossible to press the flush button without touching the toilet lid, which was quite unpleasant. 3. It took me a long time to adjust the showerhead to point directly at me. 4. The faucet design was quite awkward. 5. The curtain control button next to one of the beds was very unresponsive, and the power outlets were a bit old. 6. The complimentary drinks in the room were canned. Personally, I prefer bottled water because these cans were incredibly difficult to open – not 'easy-open' at all! 7. The curtains didn't block out light very well. Every year I travel to several places, and almost all hotel curtains, once drawn, make it feel like night during the day. But not at the Mandarin Oriental. I was hoping for a natural wake-up, but the bright light woke me up in the morning instead. These are all minor details. Other hardware in the room was a bit more stylish than similar hotels, but comfort should always come first. When these small issues are encountered right upon check-in, it definitely impacts the overall impression. Luckily, the service staff were excellent, especially at Yong Yi Ting, which left us with a very good impression. Overall, still a positive review.

This is my second stay here! The parking is free, and this time I got a complimentary room upgrade with a great view. It's also very convenient for getting around. I'll definitely choose this hotel again for my next trip.

The room had a great view, and they even provided welcome fruits. All the staff were very friendly, and a special thanks to David for contacting us beforehand, which was very thoughtful. The breakfast was also delicious. Overall, a great experience!

The room layout was a bit complex; I couldn't find the bathroom at first. However, the river view and the pool were both excellent. The front desk staff, Judy, provided great service.

The hotel facilities were decent. However, the service experience was poor, especially the discriminatory treatment regarding the breakfast dress code. When we went to the restaurant for breakfast, we were told that we couldn't enter because we were wearing disposable slippers provided in the room. We didn't argue and went back to change our shoes. But when we re-entered the restaurant, we noticed several foreign guests also wearing slippers.

My last stop in Shanghai was a fantastic experience. The hotel staff were all incredibly diligent and responsible, with very friendly attitudes. The front desk answered calls promptly, and the public areas had a unique and beautiful design. The luggage space in the room was very generous, which was practical. Because I'd had some unpleasant experiences at other hotels previously, I specifically requested several hygiene-related accommodations this time. The hotel implemented all of them before check-in and even proactively communicated with me to confirm, going so far as to upgrade my room. After housekeeping cleaned the next day, a dedicated staff member even came up to double-check. During my stay, I didn't see any bugs, and the bedding was very clean – I'd say it's the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in. The only minor drawback was that it was quite hard to get a ride-sharing car using my phone. I heard the hotel can help arrange taxis, but I didn't try it. However, walking from the hotel to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Aquarium, or Super Brand Mall isn't too far, and strolling there in the evening with a breeze blowing was quite pleasant. I wish the hotel continued success and hope they maintain this standard. This will definitely be my top choice for future visits to Shanghai.
