During this trip, we stayed at The Westin Chosun Seoul. This time, we were traveling with elderly parents and a child. The Westin has large beds—1.8 meters wide—and since it's a well-established hotel brand we've stayed at in other cities before, we chose it again this time.
First, I'd like to commend Jasmine at the front desk for her excellent check-in service. She was very friendly and spoke some Chinese, which was helpful. She also gave us some great suggestions for our itinerary over the following days. Since we were traveling as a family with a child, she arranged a quiet, non-smoking room on the 9th floor for us—a thoughtful and considerate gesture that we truly appreciated.
The bell staff who handled our luggage at check-in and checkout were also very diligent and hardworking. They helped deliver our luggage to the room and stored it when we left. During our stay, whenever we needed a taxi, they would open the doors for us and wish us a pleasant day—always polite and welcoming.
The housekeeping team was also efficient. They provided turndown service daily, kept the room clean and tidy, and never disturbed us unnecessarily—which we really liked, as it showed respect for our privacy.
Since we had a child with us, the hotel prepared a welcome gift—a bag of snacks and a greeting card. We'd like to thank Ella especially for this; our child was absolutely delighted. The housekeeper also kindly provided me with a glasses cleaning cloth when they noticed I wore glasses—a small but thoughtful touch.
That said, I do have a few suggestions for improvement. I hope The Westin could offer more child-friendly amenities, such as children's slippers and child-sized toiletries. Most hotels we've stayed at in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan do provide these. Also, there were no complimentary fruits in the room during our four-night stay.
Overall, the service quality was commendable. However, it would be even better if the staff's English proficiency could be improved across the board. At the breakfast area, more Chinese-speaking service would also be helpful. For context, about 70% of people in Singapore speak Chinese, which makes travel there very convenient. If Korean hotels could enhance their Chinese-language support, it would be just as easy for older family members—who are more comfortable with Chinese or Shanghainese—while younger travelers like us are fine with English in places like Singapore, Shanghai, or Hong Kong. So I do think the hotel would benefit from hiring a few more Chinese-speaking staff members.
On the positive side, getting a taxi from the hotel was very convenient, and the location right next to Lotte Department Store made shopping and dining extremely easy. If we travel with family again in the future, we would certainly consider staying here again.
