Location is good, a short walk to the heart of Orchard. Hotel is old but decently maintained, with a large swimming pool. Service standard however, is terrible. During my stay, I detected the smell of cigarette smoke while walking along the corridor back to my room, and traced it to a particular room. I called the guest services operator, who informed me the duty manager will look into it. This was sometime in the early afternoon. I expected a simple call back or even a note to inform me on what’s being done, as basic professional courtesy to close the case. That never happened, even after I called the guest services operator later at night to voice my displeasure. This particular operator did not seem to know that I’ve raised a feedback earlier, and when I probed further, she said the duty manager did not uncover anything. When I said that the least they could do is to follow up with me properly to update me on what had been done, she said the duty manager will speak to me, even adding the duty manager is a ‘Malay lady’, as though that’s relevant. As expected, this duty manager never showed up or called. In all the hotels I’ve stayed in across my lifetime, this is the first time I’ve encountered a hotel with staff who never bothered to follow up with me on an issue I raised during my stay. It just felt disrespectful, lazy and unprofessional, jut like sweeping things under the carpet to avoid unnecessary work for themselves. If their staff can’t even bother to follow up on a simple matter, I can’t imagine how they would be like for major issues. I will not recommend this hotel. If you face any problems, you’re on your own.
