As a solo male traveler whose sole purpose was to chase waves, I found POP! Hotel Kuta Beach to be a surprisingly good basecamp. For just $17 a night, it's an absolute steal, offering far more value than its price tag suggests.
The hotel itself is a cozy, meaning it's got a unique, no-frills charm that works perfectly for a surf trip. My room was clean and tidy, and the air-conditioning was a lifesaver after a long day in the tropical heat. One of the biggest perks was the Netflix access, which was a great way to unwind and chill out in the evenings.
The only real area for improvement was the shower. While it did eventually get warm, it took a while for the heater to kick in, which was a minor inconvenience. However, given the ridiculously low price, it's a small trade-off I was more than willing to make.
If you're on a tight budget and need a clean, comfortable, and well-located place to crash between surf sessions, this is it. You're getting incredible value for your money and a place that understands what a no-fuss traveler needs. I can't ask for more, really.
