Toya Sun Palace Resort & Spa

The room is spacious and the decoration is modern. The lobby looks very good. The washing bowl quality is too short and we need to bow down. It may be suitable to the person who is 140 cm height. The table will get wet as the water will Spin out when wash face. It’s a bit not convenient. The room temperature is high as the air conditioning could only spin to high but it still feels like 27-28 degree. The pillow has smell. The view of the lake is good. The firework starts at 20:45 for 20 minutes but we could only see the last 10 minutes if we stayed in the room. Otherwise, we have to walk out to lakeside to enjoy the full show. It only mentioned include breakfast and dinner when booking, we didn’t expect is’s buffet style. It’s full of people although it split 2 sessions, but it seems the people at session may stay until session 2 start. As I go to the restaurant at the start time of session 2, there are many people still eating. The food type is various but the quality is not good. We try to ask hotel staff if we could pay to change to Japanese style dinner but the staff replied it’s not available. Although our room price include 2 dinner and 2 breakfast, we do not enjoy after the dinner of the 1st night. I never try the meal in Japan spa restaurant worse than this one. It’s really disappointing. If I know it’s buffet style dinner when I booked, I won’t include the meal.

Mixed feelings about this hotel because the facilities are fantastic (new and classy) but the western room was old and dirty. Bed was really hard and there were random stains here and there. But beautiful views from the room! The dinner and breakfast was superb, we really enjoyed ourselves a lot! Fireworks was beautiful!! Please watch it from the courtyard and walk out closer to the lake!

Disappointed with the hotel, room from 1970's and not renovated. Food sucks. Not worth for the price. The worse hotel for the entire trip.

Breakfast and dinner are super bad, this is the worst hotel for this Japan trip. 300 to 400 pax’s people dine together, I will definitely not back again

We enjoyed the stay as the view was awesome. The onsen is beautiful as you can admire the lake Toya while enjoying the hot springs. The room needs a renovation. If it is newer, the experience will be better.

5 star view. The wow factor is at the lobby where the impressive floor to ceiling windows are clear enough to showcase Mt Yotei and the surrounding lake. The view from the room is also great. Fireworks can be seen clearly. Food wise, I say it's decent buffet fare. For the bundled price, it's pretty value for money. Maybe I was there during the off peak period, so I don't face many of the overcrowding or bad WiFi issues others do especially during peak season. The bad. I was given the very last room at the end of the corridor. There is no aircon. Towards the evening, the room was stuffy and hot. I called reception and was told that due to the season where Lake Toya area was supposedly cold, the hotel turn off Central aircon. But also thanks to the typhoon, there was a hotter than usual spell. I was advised to open my room door so that the cold air from the opened windows along the corridor can cool my room down. But no amount of cooling helped if there's no circulation. In the end, I asked for a fan. For the first time, I slept in a warm hotel room with a fan on. The pillow was also very flat. So I totally didn't get much rest. I think the hotel management need to exercise some discretion in knowing when to prioritise guests comfort over saving electricity or following protocol. Tldr: good views but bad rooms

We initially booked a western style room but we upgraded to a Japanese style room upon checking in as the western style room looked very pathetic and old. The Japanese style room is not much better. There are many tour group staying at this hotel and the meal time is very crowded. The only good thing of this hotel is that all rooms are lake facing and can see the firework (though not very fantastic firework). NOT recommended if you want to spend a night in Lake Toya.

What a Resort & Spa! OVER RATED AND TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT… Our most disappointed hotel stay. If can give negative Star, I’ll rate this hotel with negative Star.  Room conditions are not as per advertised and are so run down. Bath tub surface with few spots peeled off and crack sign, bath room smelly, bedside table surface peeled off, room wasn’t properly clean with tissues found on the sofa. Wall paper are also showing sign of peeling off.  Reason for such run down of our room, according to the reception staff, is that the hotel has more than 50 years of history.  Wjhat an excuse… An upgrade to modern room is made available to us by paying upgrade fee. Still we found that the upgraded modern room is not properly maintained. Stain on sofa not properly attended to and crack lines are prominent on basin.  There are two restaurants serving buffet meals. As we booked with Toya Sun, we are only allowed to enter the restaurant in Level 1. The food in Level 1 restaurant is not enticing, salmon sashimi are not in slice, but randomly cut small pieces of small salmon.  We tried to asked the reception if we can access to Level 2 restaurant by paying, but was declined.  No doubt the lobby has a stunning lake view but that don’t compensate visitor staying experience.
