Capo Spartivento Lighthouse

The location is beautiful, with amazing views, but unfortunately the room and some aspects of the service were disappointing. We stayed in a Garden Room, which was very spacious, with the bedroom upstairs and the lounge area and bathroom downstairs. However, having to access the bathroom via the spiral staircase in the middle of the night was very inconvenient. I would not recommend this room for elderly guests or anyone with walking difficulties. The shower also leaked, and we had to use towels to soak up the water. What was particularly off-putting was finding a nail clipping on the floor towel, which raised concerns about the standard of cleanliness. There was also no internet or mobile roaming during our stay, which meant we were completely cut off. For a five-star hotel, this was disappointing and, in my opinion, not acceptable. When we mentioned the issue to the front desk, the response was rather lax, and there seemed to be little effort to resolve the problem. On a positive note, dinner was amazing. The setting overlooking the sea was beautiful, the food was very good, and the service was excellent. Overall, it was a real pity that the room, cleanliness, connectivity and response from the front desk did not match the beautiful location and excellent dining experience.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as part of a cycling trip throughout Southern Sardinia. The stay started badly. We turned up, exhausted and hungry at 2pm, expecting to order lunch, but we were told that the kitchen was closed (despite the room information showing lunch was available until 2.30pm. We couldn’t face cycling down and up the dirt track again, so requested if they could perhaps do a simple plate of bread, cheese and ham. This was not possible, but thankfully they agreed to make us a sandwich. Although grateful, I have never seen a sadder sandwich in my life! Sliced white toaster bread, filled with ham and sliced Edam style cheese - no butter, salad or garnish. It hadn’t even been cut in half! Luckily, after this things improved. The hotel calls itself a “Lighthouse Experience” and I think this is the best way to think of it. In no way is a 5 star hotel - there are none of the facilities and service that you would expect for this category. It is, however, a fascinating building with charming rooms, lovely staff and a fabulous position high up overlooking the sea. The good (v expensive) dinner was served on the pool deck with the benefit of this view, and I will remember the experience for a long time. Breakfast was good, served entirely at table which I like. It was the only hotel out the 12 we stayed in, that did not provide a complimentary bottle of water in the room, despite a sign saying that the tap water was not drinkable. Also, no history or tour was given of the lighthouse, which was a missed opportunity - maybe drink on the roof for all guests at sunset? So I think the way to look at the hotel is not as a 5 star hotel, but more a charming b&b that offers an unusual and memorable experience. One night stay is probably enough.

A breathtaking view and a wonderful getaway, especially for couples. We stayed in an annex room. The air conditioning in that room is not adequate for summer temperatures. (No heat wave, just normal temps) We requested a fan but was not available. Had we known, would have bought one in Cagliari and donated. We had two rather uncomfortable nights. Otherwise, meals were excellent. All staff gracious and accommodating. It is a remarkable experience.

Faro CS is a unique hotel. It’s a C19 lighthouse converted into rooms with a beautiful infinity pool and tranquil grounds. Perched on a promontory with its working lighthouse it has oodles of character and a lot going for it. It’s kept spotlessly clean and the rooms are great. Our room had a sea view in the original LH and was amazing. The bed , circular in design, was one one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Breakfasts, served by the pool are fantastic.But other aspects of the hotel need upgrading. Some fixtures and fittings are looking tired, and that’s not all that needs a refresh. You reach the hotel via a truly appalling 2km long road full of potholes and deep gouges in the surface. It’s steep in parts and unlit. Even after the private gate things don’t improve. I was glad we had arranged for a private taxi from Cagliari as negotiating that in the dark in a hire car would not have been fun. This was not mentioned at all by staff in emails re arriving at the hotel. It takes around 20 minutes to reach Chia (2km away) from the hotel, so factor this in to your day. We felt fortunate to have hired an SUV as without this it would have been much more difficult. The other issue is the food! The road does act as a bit of a deterrent to eat in town if you can be bothered to even try!. Options there are limited. However the E100 menu ( E25 a course) might spur you on to be creative. The food is inconsistently prepared. We didn’t try any of the starters but the primi plati were good the twice we did eat there. Secondi were cold and disappointing. When I drew this to staffs’ attention, they did offer a free dessert but I’d had enough of cold food by then. To be offered a sorbet after that seemed a bit! weird. The location and stunning views make up for a lot at FCS. Only a few small changes are needed to make this into a really brilliant experience.
