Context: Family of 6 (two adults and 4 children) travelling through South Germany, Dolomites, Garda and French Alps for our summer holiday. We stayed at Gardea Soul Family for 3 nights in July ‘26. The Good: clean facilities, attractive looking building, warm and professional welcome, attentive staff, safe and secure parking. We rented a dingy in Torbole at a place recommended by the hotel and we had fun sailing it. The Bad: poor sound mitigation between rooms/communal areas. For example on the last night we were woken (including our 2 year old) at 10.30pm by a child screaming about having his iPad taken off him in the corridor outside our room. The ‘adventure park’ 5 minutes walk away was recommended by the hotel but is a bit run down and the high ropes etc are much better at other venues we have been to, at a more reasonable price point. There is also a lot of traffic in the local area, but that is to be expected in July, albeit it spoils the ambience of the area. The Ugly: This is simply not a 5 star establishment, rather they have stuck 5 stars on the front of the building, but with no actual attempt to meet 5 star standards - it is a solid 3 star and if the pricing wasn’t so high, my expectations would have been different. The food was very average (mitigated only by the attentive and polite waiting staff) and for those commenting that it has previously been great, I can only assume the chef has recently changed or those reviewers have not actually experienced 5 star quality food before, because it really isn’t anything special! The attempt at a ‘tasting menu’ on the Friday night was frankly laughable with large parts inedible, which was very surprising for Italy! We were charged over 5000 euros for 3 nights in two adjoining rooms and frankly paid through gritted teeth, feeling thoroughly ripped off. We had just come from Aki Family Resort in Plose (Dolomites), where the rate was less per night but the overall quality was excellent - it made for a particularly stark comparison!
