Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa

I bought a pre-sale package on Ctrip, and the front desk ended up upgrading me to an executive suite on the second floor. Although the hotel isn't brand new, the decor is still quite good – it feels substantial and elegant. The breakfast spread was excellent, and the two-person set menu at Shang Palace was also delicious. Ms. Guo at the front desk was particularly attentive and thoughtful; she made me feel right at home from check-in to check-out. With great facilities, food, and service, the Shangri-La Hotel Lhasa is truly good value for money.

The quality of Shangri-La Hotel is consistently reliable. They did their best to arrange an early check-in for us, allowing us to rest, even though the facilities are a bit older compared to newer hotels. However, the quality hasn't diminished. In particular, the oxygen generator in each room is a huge help for those experiencing altitude sickness. Special thanks to Xiao Zuo at the front desk for her warm service. Shangri-La will still be my top choice next time I visit Lhasa.

Overall, it's very good. The hotel is relatively new, and the room facilities are quite nice. The service is also excellent. The only drawback is that the location is a bit out of the way, and the hotel's garden facilities are currently undergoing renovation.

The room was very comfortable, and both the bathroom and shower were incredibly clean – truly a 5-star experience. The breakfast spread was excellent, and you don't have to worry about altitude sickness here. Many foreign tourists stay at this hotel. Plus, with Didi (ride-hailing), transportation is very convenient.

The environment is beautiful, with stunning views everywhere. The oxygen supply is stable, and there's a doctor on-site 24/7. Oxygen cylinder deliveries are also incredibly prompt. The buffet offers a wide variety of delicious dishes. You don't even need to carry your luggage; the service is excellent.

The hotel entrance isn't very noticeable, as it's right along the main road. However, the service and amenities are excellent, especially the complimentary afternoon tea and happy hour. You honestly don't even need to leave the hotel for meals – that's definitely worth praising! On the downside, on our first day, a silverfish fell from the bathroom ceiling, so it seems like cleanliness could be improved. I had a similar experience at a five-star hotel in Chongqing ten days ago.

Xiao Guo was excellent! She arranged a room with a view of the Potala Palace for us. For Dragon Boat Festival, they thoughtfully prepared zongzi for breakfast. They also have a medical room with oxygen available, which is a nice touch.

The hotel's location is excellent, right opposite the Tibet Museum and about a twenty-minute walk from the Potala Palace. There's a great Sichuan restaurant nearby with delicious food. The rooms are spacious, well-laid out, and spotlessly clean, with soft and comfortable linens. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there's a good variety for breakfast. Definitely recommend it.

Many people, myself included, often debate between the St. Regis and the Shangri-La, as both hotels in Beijing are quite unremarkable. Ultimately, I chose the Shangri-La for its value for money. I had considered Songtsam too, but common sense told me to be a smart spender. Although the hotel shows its age, its architectural style is grand and refined, revealing luxurious material choices. Time has inevitably left its mark, but a classic car, even when old, is still a classic car. Moreover, service and quality require time to accumulate and withstand market scrutiny. While the Shangri-La may not have many existing locations, it still holds a strong market advantage, and it takes an discerning eye to appreciate it. My butler, Bowen, arranged my room before I even arrived. Looking out the window at the Potala Palace's silhouette in the distance immediately set the mood. He then meticulously delivered on all aspects of my package. I found Bowen to be a man of few words but very steady, highly responsive, and an exceptionally smooth driver. He never asked inappropriate or subjective questions, which I truly appreciated. Over three days, Bowen's accompaniment added a unique dimension to my Lhasa itinerary. Among the few Tibetans I've encountered, he was a definite plus. I sincerely wish him all the best in his work! The Shangri-La in Lhasa lives up to its brand's standards and enhances the reputation of its sister properties. I'm so glad I made the right choice; this will be a memorable and wonderful travel experience.
