Upper House Chengdu

No hotel is perfect, so I'll just share my honest experience. For my trip to Chengdu, I was torn between two hotels in Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li. I ultimately chose The Temple House, even though it was twice as expensive. Firstly, I personally prefer The Temple House's design aesthetic. The hotel is also a quiet oasis in a bustling area. While there aren't many scenic views inside, its tranquility and convenience are its strengths. Step outside and you're surrounded by shops and great food, and it's very close to the subway station. If you prefer not to be disturbed, this hotel doesn't have concierges adding you on WeChat to ask about your needs; they might occasionally call for feedback. Hotel staff always greet you warmly as you come and go. On my birthday, both housekeeping and the breakfast restaurant sent cakes, which was a delightful surprise. Check-out and deposit refunds were also very fast. Now for a few minor drawbacks. The various light switches and buttons in the room took some time to figure out – they weren't very intuitive. Also, perhaps due to Chengdu's high humidity, there was a faint musty smell in the room. The bathroom lighting was indeed a bit dim, making it feel a bit like showering in a dungeon, but the showerhead had great water pressure which made for a very comfortable shower – that's a definite plus. Additionally, I saw that the hotel's vegetarian restaurant had a Michelin star, but after sitting down to order, I found that the portions were tiny and definitely wouldn't fill you up. There were hardly any options on the menu, and it was expensive with small servings, really just for the presentation. This also made me give up on the idea of trying the Western restaurant, so I ended up wandering around the various restaurants in Taikoo Li instead. I feel the hotel should improve the variety of its in-house restaurants. However, the breakfast restaurant was excellent, with a rich variety of options. I tried almost all the local Chengdu snacks, and they all tasted pretty good.

From check-in to check-out, the hotel's warm and thoughtful service was evident throughout our stay. Not only did they upgrade our room, but every day we were treated to a different dessert afternoon tea. Coming back from our excursions, stepping into the room instantly washed away our fatigue. Even though the hotel has been open for a while, the facilities are still very new, the views are absolutely stunning, and the staff are incredibly friendly. A special shout-out to Nicole, the front desk manager, who was extremely enthusiastic and helped us, unfamiliar with Chengdu, solve many problems during our three-day visit. We'll definitely choose The Temple House again on our next trip to Chengdu.

The House's design is incredibly stylish. The front desk staff were very friendly and even gave us a cute panda toy. The breakfast was quite unique and substantial enough to be a main meal. It's in a prime location in Taikoo Li, and right outside, there's the delicious Yepopo Bobo Chicken. Highly recommend!

The location is fantastic, right downstairs from Taikoo Li, and not far from IFS and Chunxi Road. It's a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city, with a blend of traditional Chinese charm and modern simplicity, giving it a real sense of quality. The hotel has an all-day Western restaurant called Temple, where breakfast is à la carte – very refined, extensive, and delicious! There's also Tavolino, an Italian restaurant with a foreign chef; their two- and three-course lunch sets offer great value. Plus, there's a vegetarian restaurant and a teahouse, both within Taikoo Li itself. At first glance, you might not even realize they're part of the hotel, which adds to their unique ambiance. The bedding is excellent and very comfortable, though the pillows are just average. The toiletries are custom-made for the hotel, with a lovely strong essential oil scent, and you can even take them home – a nice touch!

During my stay, the front desk staff, Xiao He, was incredibly patient. She promptly resolved any issues I had, and her service response was very quick. She always maintained a gentle attitude, never showing any impatience. Overall, the service experience far exceeded my expectations! The hotel itself is also beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable!

I got a free upgrade to a suite! Even though The House Collective has been open for years, their standards are still top-notch! The location is super convenient too, right across from Ma Wang Zi and behind Taikoo Li. Definitely my top choice when visiting Chengdu!

Absolutely fantastic! Especially Ms. Gulu Gulu, her service was impeccable. From now on, whenever I'm in Chengdu, I'll only stay here. Highly, highly recommend!
