Alicante Gran Sol Affiliated by Melia

Location was brilliant. View from 24 floor overlooking castle, sea and marina was great. Rooms tired but clean and we had a great sleep Paid for half board - dont bother ! Food was abysmal and the 'restaurant' on the 2nd was like a basic café. Waited and wasted lots of time for the non air con lift . They not even fit for purpose - they are jittery and are horrendous with 1 being out of order for over a year. to top it all the - the WORKING lift was out of order today and we had to walk down 24 flights of stairs with bags and cases- the hotel did not even leave a message on the app so no communication at all, the staff on the front desk looked so fed up and embarrassed (not their fault ) certainly not worth the €420 for 2 nights- how this hotel can be affiliated to Melia I will never know. I wont be back.

Shame on Jet 2 for saying this location is 4 star. If you like having your meals in a school canteen and drinking coffee from paper cups, then enjoy!This is a very tall and narrow hotel with 25 floors. Shocked to see that there was no complimentary water on arrival. No privacy if your in the lower floors from being overlooked from adjacent buildings. The à la carte restaurant is small and is separately run to the hotel. Booking the restaurant before you arrive is a must. Lifts are slow and very small so if you like getting your steps then fill yer boots! Asked Jet 2 before we physically checked to see if could move to the proper “Melia hotel”, they came back with the cost of the holiday again! There are 3x Melia hotels in Alicante. Pay the extra and go to either of the other 2. I think Jet 2 should have gone to Specsavers!

I booked the hotel back in February I booked the family room because my husband has multiple myeloma & would require space .I added breakfast on around June I understand that I would pay more but I didn’t realise that they would change the room to either twin or double.I gave them a a ring & they told me it was a double bed I explained that my husband could experience a lot of pain & would require his own bed .The lady on the phone said she would make a twin room availability for us & put us on 13 floor which I thought was fare as I did ask for big room at the beginning.On the day of departure we got stuck in the lift for 45 mins which was a terrible experience. After getting back home I have noticed a £177 pending transaction it’s obviously for the room change

Nothing to shout about, basic but clean. Location is excellent. Breakfast is good with several options. Property is a bit dated but is fine if you’re just using it to sleep/wash. Not enough elevators for the demand. I found the beds were hard and uncomfortable.

At present booked in big mistake . How can be 4 star bathroom chips on door bath glazing awful.Had to clean hairs of toilet seat not impressed.Location is good near to beach and room has a sea view. However balcony not accessible as Air con unit located there and just hot air being pumps out. Staff excellent helpful. 2 lifts for all floors not acceptful had to wait 5mins for lift.
