My recent stay at Hilton Kuala Lumpur from August 29 to August 31 was, frankly, a massive letdown for someone who is a repeating guest. The disappointment started right at check-in. Hilton emailed me promising a complimentary birthday cake in the room, but opening the door to absolute nothingness felt like a blatant lie and cheap fake hope. Knowing my history with warm rooms here, I specifically requested a colder AC unit ahead of time. Yet, walking into the room, it was the exact same stuffy experience.
What truly ruined the trip, though, was the appalling inconsistency and outright disrespect from the staff—making us feel like fools or even intruders. On our second evening at the gym, after being told for two days by the spa/gym counter that no registration was needed, a staff member abruptly shouted at us inside the gym to fill out our names, claiming it was SOP. The very next visit? Another staff member at the counter casually said we didn't need to fill anything out. Absolute chaos.
Things hit rock bottom on our last morning around 10 AM at the spa counter. A staff member who didn't wear a nametag, but identified himself as Mr. Rofie (management can check CCTV for August 31 at 10 AM), was aggressively disrespectful. He acted like we were intruders, tried to block us from entering the sauna—which we had been using freely for days—and forced each of us to fill out separate forms just for lockers. He even rudely checked his PC to verify our in-house guest status right in front of us, completely butchering basic hospitality standards. No greeting, no smile, no towels provided—just pure ignorance.
At checkout on August 31, the front desk experience rubbed salt in the wound. When I asked about extending our parking past the standard 4 PM limit, the staff member gave an immediate sour face and a flat "no." It was a jarring contrast to my stay just a week prior (August 24–25), where staff happily extended parking until 8 PM and even handed out cute stickers. It’s hard not to feel like Hilton KL prioritizes foreign guests over locals.
It wasn't entirely a disaster. Our level 35 housekeeper on August 30 deserves massive praise—he was kind, professional, and happily supplied an extra coffee capsule when asked. The buffet breakfast and dinner offered a good variety (though the lobster cooking was painfully slow), and the pool area is okay, though the slide desperately needs a refurbishment since it isn't slippery at all.
Despite a couple of silver linings, I will never repeat this hotel again. Between the ignorant management, broken birthday promises, and wildly unprofessional staff, it is simply not worth your money or 5-star expectations.
