We stayed at Maloka Barlovento late January early February 2026 . We had been very busy sightseeing in Bogota then Cartegena and wanted total relaxation for the second part of our holiday. The hotel absolutely fulfilled what we wanted. I had booked 7 nights having read reviews saying people wished they stayed longer. The location is fantastic , we had the suite with river and ocean views. Wi fi is available throughout the property. The restaurant is open so that the surrounding nature, flora and fauna are always in sight. Beautiful sunsets on our balcony with a coffee or glass of wine. The suite was simple, comfortable and had everything we wanted. We had the swimming pool to ourselves , apart from Lizards and birdlife, most days. The stand out though is the staff friendly and nothing is a problem. We are vegetarian and I had thought that the menu night be a bit repetitive , no problem the lovely lady at reception asked the kitchen to cook us various dishes not on the menu all were really delicious. Breakfasts are served at the table and really delicious. The cleaning staff are the best we have experienced. Serving staff are attentive and kind. My wife fell ill at breakfast, quick as a flash one of the waiters helped her back to the suite. Medicine was ordered and with us within 30 minutes and staff popped up at least 3 times during the day to check on her. It made a huge difference to know we had support. The hotel also arranged the transfer from Cartegena , the driver was courteous on time and significantly cheaper than any other private transfer. Knowing a little Spanish definitely helps but is not essential . Bug spray is a must, you are essentially in a jungle. Wildlife amazing, we must have seen new species every day. In general if you are thinking of a holiday in Colombia don't hesitate. Do your research and book it. A lovely country , history, culture, amazing street art ,vibrant neighbourhoods and incredible wildlife.
