Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu

The environment and location are both good, the scenery is quite nice, and transportation is also fairly convenient.

I recently stayed one night at Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu and had a great overall experience. The hotel is very grand, both the common areas and the rooms were comfortable, and transportation was very convenient, making it easy to visit nearby attractions. On our second day, we traveled from Hakone back to Tokyo directly from the bus stop right outside the hotel, which saved us a lot of hassle. The dinner buffet was extensive with a wide variety of dishes, and the overall quality was good. The hotel also offered free ice cream, which guests could enjoy unlimitedly during designated hours. Having one after a hot spring bath was particularly refreshing and a definite bonus. Of course, a visit to Ten-yu wouldn't be complete without experiencing the onsen. A unique feature is the open-air bath where you can view the sky. I was really looking forward to soaking while stargazing at night, but unfortunately, the women's bath on our check-in day was on the first floor and only rotated to the sixth floor the next morning. By then, it was too late to see the stars, which was a bit disappointing. I wish I had known; I would have booked two nights to fully experience both baths. The hotel's natural surroundings are also lovely, and the overall environment is very quiet. Staying here made it very convenient to explore the Hakone area. I was very satisfied with the room, the onsen, the buffet, and the transportation. Five stars! If I come back to Hakone, I'd consider staying two nights to make up for not seeing the starry onsen this time.

The moment our car pulled up, a staff member rushed out to help with our luggage, smiling all the while. They guided us through check-in, even offering a warm towel and welcome tea – talk about a fantastic first impression! Just outside the lobby, there's a lush, green mountain view. Lounging on the beanbag chairs there, just chilling out, was incredibly therapeutic 🌿. The room itself was a typical Japanese style, spacious and spotless. The balcony even had an open-air private onsen tub, so if you didn't feel like going to the public baths, you could soak in your own hot spring while enjoying the view – maximum privacy. The hotel also provided yukata robes, and wearing them around the premises really added to the whole experience 👘. The onsen facilities were definitely the highlight! The public baths on the fifth and sixth floors alternate daily for men and women. The open-air onsen on the sixth floor had an absolutely stunning view – mountains by day, starry skies by night. Soaking in the hot spring with a towel on my head, just zoning out, felt exactly like something out of an anime. The toiletries were POLA, with everything from makeup remover to toner and lotion provided. My skin felt so smooth after the bath, I just went straight back to my room and passed out ♨️✨. For dinner, we chose the teppanyaki. The chef cooked each dish right in front of us, meticulously explaining every course in English. The ingredients were fresh, the seasoning precise – you could really taste the care put into it. Breakfast was a buffet, and having unlimited sashimi rice bowls was pure bliss. Seafood donburi lovers, rejoice! 🍣 On checkout day, a staff member stood at the entrance, bowing goodbye and waving until our car was far out of sight. That feeling of being genuinely cared for truly makes you want to come back again and again.

Nestled in the mountains, this hotel boasts a fantastic environment and superb rooms. Upon arrival, they even added a Japanese-style floor futon for the kids, which was a nice touch. The room decor and facilities are on par with a five-star hotel back home. Each balcony has a private onsen, offering extreme privacy. The breakfast and dinner buffets feature a wide variety of fresh ingredients. The hotel garden is picturesque, and both the indoor and outdoor public baths are commendable, especially the 6th-floor open-air bath that blends seamlessly with the mountain scenery, offering an excellent experience. Having our luggage transferred directly from Hakone-Yumoto to our hotel room was another pleasant surprise. All the staff members have good English proficiency, and complimentary coffee, tea, and ice cream are available. The only minor drawback was the light leakage from the curtains, causing us to wake up at 5:30 AM with the sunrise. Overall, it's great value for money and definitely worth a try.

Our stay at Hakone Ten-yu was absolutely wonderful and definitely the most memorable part of our Japan trip. The hotel boasts a beautiful setting with stunning views of the Hakone mountains, making the entire stay incredibly relaxing. The highlight for us was the hotel's onsen, especially "Uki-Gumo no Yu." The open-air infinity bath offered breathtaking views. Soaking in the hot springs while watching the sunrise in the morning truly made us feel embraced by nature. The room was also very comfortable, with a charming Japanese aesthetic. The staff were friendly and attentive, providing warm and exceptional hospitality. Dinner was exquisite, and the entire dining experience felt very special. Staying here as a family, enjoying the onsen, wearing yukata, and savoring delicious food made for a truly comfortable Hakone getaway. If you're planning a trip to Hakone, I highly recommend Ten-yu! The scenery, hot springs, service, and overall atmosphere are all fantastic. It's definitely worth another visit. ♨️✨

The environment was beautiful and pleasant, and the room facilities were complete. However, the service was very poor. For some reason, the front desk staff were perfunctory when I checked in and even gave me incorrect information, causing me to miss the fireworks display.

Highly recommend this place! The hot spring experience was absolutely fantastic, the warmth enveloped my whole body and completely washed away the fatigue from my travels. The buffet dinner offered a great variety of choices and the quality was excellent, definitely worth trying. The service was warm and attentive, with great attention to detail. The entire place was quiet and comfortable, with a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, making it perfect for both unwinding and vacationing. Some rooms even offer sunrise views!
