Rangeley Town & Lake

Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. The location was the only positive. We experienced numerous issues with cleanliness, maintenance, communication, and customer service. One of my biggest concerns was the **unexpected 4% credit card fee**. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for the total cost and was not told about this additional charge. Had I known, I would have paid another way. Instead of acknowledging the lack of communication, the owner said that everyone is charged the fee. The issue is not that everyone pays it—it is that **I specifically asked for the total and was not informed of the fee. The cabin itself was disappointing. It smelled musty, the windows were outdated and difficult to open, the couch had a **large hole and dog hair**, and the living-room rug had multiple burn holes**. The kitchen was also not properly prepared, as all the dishes were still in the dishwasher when we arrived. The waterfront was difficult to enjoy due to numerous ducks, feathers, and droppings throughout the property and around the docks**. Boats were everywhere, our dock was smaller and very close to the others, and unlike the other cabins, ours faced the grass and marina rather than the lake. The included kayaks were also unusable because one paddle was broken and there were no usable replacements. After waiting about 25 minutes, we were ultimately encouraged to use the broken paddle. There were additional maintenance concerns, including standing water around the cabin, a rusty pipe with unknown water coming from it, and a large open basement area containing rusty materials, buckets, and debris that appeared potentially unsafe for children or pets. Check-in was also not a good first impression. We arrived around 2:50 p.m., and although check-in was at 3:00, no one was there. I was told the person responsible was out running errands and would return soon. What was most disappointing was the lack of ownership and customer service when we brought these concerns forward. Instead of feeling that our concerns were taken seriously, we felt that excuses were made and responsibility was avoided. For the price, we expected a clean, well-maintained property, functioning amenities, accurate pricing, and professional customer service. Unfortunately, we did not receive that. The location was the only thing this property had going for it, and that alone was not enough. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it based on our experience.

The motel underwent renovation in about 2022, so it has updated decor. Definitely fits in with the trend of upcycled motels! My room was very spacious with two queen (or double) beds, and a small studio kitchen (stovetop, microwave, fridge, sink, coffee maker, minimal supplies for basic cooking). There was plenty of room to stash bags or gear so that it doesn't take up floor space. Wall hooks just inside the door are perfect for winter jackets. You park in front of your room, and can then access the large grassy grounds between the motel and the lake from sliding glass doors. There are two chairs and a small table outside each set of sliders. One thing I appreciated is that the room had two layers of curtains -- sheers to let in light but block sun glare, and black-out curtains. Everything seemed suitably clean, although like almost all motels and hotels, nooks and crannies don't get cleaned regularly enough. In my case, being a bit of a spider-phobe, and my visit occurring during still-warm weather, there were some populated spider webs over the exterior front door, and a web or two up under the curtain valance. Many people wouldn't be bothered by this. I asked the manager on duty to sweep down the webs at 8:30 at night, and he did. The motel is located on the main road/highway through town, but I was not bothered at all by noise. While my visit was on weekdays and in September, I've been to Rangely enough in other months to know that road noise is not usually a problem. What's nice is that a 5-10 minute walk will get you to the town park, restaurants, a few shops. This IS Rangely, and it's not a jumping place, but that's why I love it.

Great stay. Nothing fancy but all you need. Clean and well kept. Fully stocked kitchenette. Great location overlooking lake and close to restaurants. Owner and family were helpful and friendly. Greet quality and value. No hesitation to stay here again.

Very clean. Recently updated with a kitchenette and large refrigerator, along with a toaster oven and all of the utensils you may need (including a wine bottle opener). Decor is very cute with a woodsy/bear theme. Beautiful views from the room towards the lake. Would definitely go back again!!

Our family vacationed in Rangley in the lates 60's until 1977 and mostly at the Town and Lake Motel. My last trip there with my parents and sister was 1977. We always stayed in the cabins and went back because they were clean and the owners always made us feel welcome. So this past week I went with my wife and we stayed in a motel unit, and after 47 years since my last visit this was going to be a mini vacation. Another generation of the family runs the establishment and the service was as great as I remember from many years ago. The motel room, didn't feel like a motel room but rather a guest room at a friends (or families) residence. The room decor was tastefully Maine themed, from the bed comforters to the dishware in the kitchenette to the framed prints on the wall. A large micro wave oven, a large stove top in the counter, a large toaster oven and a Keurig coffee maker, plus much more was essentially everything you needed to be comfortable. The room had patio doors leading to a deck that offered a great view of the lake for relaxing in a chair enjoying morning coffee or an evening beverage. I am glad I took a trip back in time to when I was younger and enjoyed the accommodations and the little town. I am already planning on going back next year and spending more time at the Town and Lake, and perhaps convince my son and his family to join us.

Friendly owner of an ideally located lake front motel in Rangeley, Maine. Our updated and well stocked room was perfect for our Memorial weekend vacation. Sliders lead to the back deck where you can enjoy the lake. We will return! Thank you!
