The Toyoko Inn in Hirosaki City is conveniently located right next to Hirosaki Station. I stayed during the Nebuta Festival, and unfortunately, I could only get a smoking room. There was a faint smell of smoke, but it was acceptable.
The complimentary breakfast was thoughtful, including 100% apple juice – delicious! The food was also quite good.
The front desk staff didn't speak much English; I had to use Google Translate to communicate. However, this seems to be the case at several Toyoko Inns I've stayed at.
The room facilities were old, the lighting was dim, and only one pillow was provided. Both the pillow and the bed were on the firm side. I recommend bringing your own slippers, as they charge for disposable slippers, but they're only 60 yen a pair.
There's also a delicious Indian curry restaurant next to the inn; I recommend trying it if you're staying there.
