Visiting Munich for the very first time, it does appear hard to spot Beyond by Geisel - especially on a saturday afternoon in the bustling Rathaus square. Upon finally finding the adress, it feels a bit like entering a cuty parking garage as the hotel occupies only the last two floors of the modern building facing the Rathaus. Once inside however, you discover a polished, spotless and inviting hotel featuring incredibly comfortable bedding plus attentive helpful hotel staff who left us the best possible impression, particularly during the exceptional good morning breakfast enjoying the city atmosphere round the Rathaus. Beyong by Geisel central location was a major factor in our Munic hotels choice : it remains a decision we certainly do not regret afterall and one we would certainly recommend to anyone coming to visit the magnificent Munich center town. Beyond by Geisel is a boutique luxury hotel on the Marienplatz with staff entirely committed to your comfort and satisfaction. It is the 5th and part of the 6th floor of a multi-use building, so it does not have a grand entrance, spa, or gym. What it does have are upscale, well-appointed and highly comfortable rooms overlooking the very center of old Munich - with around the clock amenities and outstanding staff. Reservations includes excellent, made-to-order breakfast (7am to noon!), available baked goods and drinks throughout the day and evening at no charge, and an absolutely fantastic location. Yes, due to its location within the pedestrian-only zone, there is a very short walk (maybe 1/3 of a block) from the car-drop location to the front door, but hotel staff are more than happy to come assist you if you call. In fact, hotel staff are happy to assist you with anything you need (we needed to arrange a doctor visit - which the hotel made happen easily and entirely to our satisfaction), including dinner reservations and transfers. Being able to watch the Glockenspiel from our room was really cool. It's an excellent choice if your purpose is to be in the heart of Munich.

⸻ Excellent location — but absolutely not a 5-star hotel experience The hotel has an excellent location, directly above Marienplatz, which is by far its main advantage. However, guests should know that this is a very small hotel with only 19 rooms, located on the 5th and 6th floors of an office building. From the outside, it is almost impossible to tell there is a hotel there. Cars and taxis also cannot reach the entrance, as the area is closed to traffic. The drop-off point is about 100 meters away, which is manageable, but not very convenient with several suitcases. The hotel presents itself as a luxury 5-star property, but in our experience it does not provide anything close to that level. The main issue was the clear lack of staff. During many hours of the day, especially in the afternoon and evening, there was only one staff member at reception, responsible for welcoming new guests, showing rooms and handling all guest requests at the same time. Our room was modern and comfortable, but there was no kettle or coffee machine. The refrigerator in the room was broken, and even after a technician came, it was not fixed. Since we had essential personal items that needed refrigeration, I had to store them in the general kitchen refrigerator and wait each time for the only staff member at reception to bring them to me. I asked to speak with a manager about possible compensation, but although I was told the matter would be handled, nobody got back to me. Housekeeping also did not feel like a 5-star hotel: no evening service, no turndown service, no proactive towel replacement. Breakfast is served in a small area with armchairs and low tables, which also did not feel like a luxury hotel experience. This is not a bad hotel: the location is excellent, the room was pleasant, and some staff members were kind. But the service and operation are absolutely not suitable for a 5-star luxury hotel, especially at the very high price we paid. Anyone booking should know what to expect

Big room. Convenient location on the plazza, but hard to reach by car. You have to park the car in the garage and walk with your suitcases. Entry a bit hard to find. On the 5th floor of a building. Shower was amazing. Breakfast was way overpriced. 8 euros for 4 teaspoons of fruit salad.

Good reviews everywhere however upon arrival the entrance did not exactly look imposing! Located on the 5th Floor (lift & stairs) the actual hotel entrance was better however not exactly 5* compared to big chains. As usual passports were required however I found it disconcerting that they also wanted to keep my credit card during the check in process (I declined). Described as “luxury boutique” with 19 rooms. Ours was a very nice room, great central location overlooking the old town hall, good for shopping / sightseeing etc. In room mini bar was nothing much, comfortable bed / linen, nice shower / bath (junior suite), decent soundproofing. Good sized TV (BBC / Sky). Decent working desk, library, nibbles available too. Our room was up a stairway (disabled access??). There was no magnifying vanity mirror in the bathroom (the hotel website states there is a makeup mirror provided. My wife asked for one however it never arrived). Overall the location is great, room size was good but you have to question whether it really is 5*; not at all bad but for the money it’s questionable.
