I highly recommend the Hôtel Balzac. The small, elegant hotel is ideally located in the historic center of the delightful town of Fougères, the site of a walled, medieval château; and within easy walking distance of the historic church, as well as the town square which is surrounded by lively cafés, bars, and the site of musical performances and cultural events. The town also hosts a weekly fresh market that draws large crowds. The rooms at the Balzac are immaculately clean and well appointed with comfortable beds, French linens, and good-sized bathtubs. The decor is elegantly simple, and the rooms furnished with desks and electric kettles. The hotel offers excellent, ample breakfasts , and a varied, classic French cuisine in the dining areas during lunch and dinner hours. The special desserts made in house by the Balzac chef are especially appeciated. Try the crème brûlée. The owners and staff are impeccably courteous, welcoming and helpful to their international guests.
