Aparthotel Arai Barcelona

This was, by far, the worst experience ever. For personal reasons, the moment I entered the room, I felt incredibly oppressed and couldn't stay there (the Gothic architectural style, dark room, distressed furniture, and stone elements made it feel very oppressive to me, much more so than in the pictures). I wanted to leave, but no matter how I communicated, it was non-refundable (in the US, Europe, and many other countries, you can usually negotiate a refund). The staff suggested I switch to a top-floor room, which was a significant upgrade! The new room was much brighter and less oppressive, but I still didn't like the hotel's style. And then, as I was getting ready for bed and pulled back the tightly tucked-in sheets, I found long hair. I was already aware from previous reviews that the soundproofing from the street wasn't good, but at night, the elevator was constantly making loud, rattling noises – it was incredibly disruptive! I strongly suspect this room shouldn't even be for sale. A truly terrible experience! I believe both the hotel staff and I had a very poor experience.

Very good

Our whole family was very satisfied with the Barcelona hotel during our four-day stay. There weren't many staff members, but they were all friendly and polite. It was convenient to eat and shop nearby, and there was also a park for the kids to play in. The room also had a simple kitchen, making it easy to buy groceries from several nearby supermarkets and cook our meals.

This is a complete rip-off! They charge extra for coffee capsules and bottled water in the room, without any prior notice. The hotel has no parking; you have to walk a long way to find a paid parking lot. The service is terrible. There's an ashtray in the room, but after you smoke, they say you can't smoke anymore and you'll be fined 600 euros. Avoid this hotel. Don't stay here!
