Our experience at Khum Phaya Resort & Spa was unfortunately extremely disappointing, to the point that we decided to leave after only one night despite having booked a four-night stay.
The property may once have been a beautiful resort, but today it feels seriously neglected. We encountered several cleanliness and maintenance issues, including mould and dirt around the pool area and in the bathroom, stained bed linen, dirty and damaged towels, and generally tired facilities. We Even noticed broken glass near the pool, which is particularly concerning from a safety perspective.
Another major issue was the noise around the pool from early in the morning and throughout the day, making it very difficult to sleep, rest or enjoy the supposedly relaxing atmosphere of the resort.
What disappointed us most was the enormous gap between the way this property is presented and the reality we experienced. Whatever charm the hotel may have had in the past, the current level of maintenance, cleanliness and attention to detail was, in our experience, simply not consistent with what one should reasonably expect from a 5-star hotel.
The situation was disappointing enough that, after our first night, we chose to leave the hotel and book another property in Chiang Mai for the remaining three nights, at our own expense. Despite this, the hotel refused our request for a refund of the three unused nights.
We never leave a negative review, but in this case we feel it is important to share our experience honestly. A beautiful setting and traditional architecture cannot compensate for inadequate cleanliness, poor maintenance and a standard that, during our stay, fell far below what was advertised.
