I've stayed in hundreds of hotels over the years, and this is the first time I've been so thoroughly duped! I ended up having to flee.
The hotel's sales manager, Wang Xiao, knew I needed to stay for 14 nights and that I could book directly with him, bypassing Ctrip. He agreed to give me a quiet, clean high-floor room with a view of the Three-Piece Suit (Shanghai Financial Center, Jin Mao Tower, and Shanghai World Financial Center). But what he actually showed me was a dirty, old, smelly, and noisy room right by the elevator. The front desk said there was a clean, quiet room that would be ready a few hours later, and I, foolishly, believed them again. I dropped off my luggage and went out. When I returned at 10 PM and checked in, it was the same disgusting situation, and to make matters worse, guests with a baby were next door, and the child cried all night! It sounded as loud as if the baby was crying in my own room. Everyone, please zoom in on the pictures.
I was so disappointed! I decided to stay one more day, just until my checked luggage arrived, and then I would leave. A big reason why I was tricked twice is that there was no Ctrip review and rating system to hold them accountable.
Their room rates are now even cheaper than before. A basic windowless room is only around 200 yuan, and even after removing the commission for Ctrip, a deluxe twin room is not much different from the 300 yuan I paid them directly. Yet, they showed no remorse for tricking me twice; instead, they very firmly insisted I move to a windowless room. I don't mind that this room is dirty, smelly, and noisy, but they mind that I paid less for a better stay?! You've got to be kidding me!
The windowless room was extremely dim, impossible to do makeup in, very claustrophobic, and even dirtier and more rundown. The air conditioner's noise was incredibly piercing. Everyone, please see the photos and videos.
If you've had breakfast at a proper 4-star hotel, you wouldn't say theirs is good. To be fair, it's very ordinary, more like a 3-star breakfast.
This hotel is very complex; the lower floors are apartments, and the upper floors are hotel rooms. There are tons of delivery drivers who freely enter and exit the hotel lobby, use the elevators, and just rush about. A large metal panel in the elevator is even coming loose; please see the video. Also, on each high floor, there are several very mysterious iron security doors interspersed among rows of guest rooms. The front desk staff stammered, some saying they were owner's rooms, others saying fire doors (which is obviously a lie).
There are many other small issues, such as a light not working, a broken light switch, weak shower water pressure, and yogurt I drank on December 20th had a December 1st expiration date...
