Halcyon Mawella

Halcyon Mawella is simply the most wonderful place to stay! We spent three nights here and only wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is beautifully and elegantly designed, with great respect for its natural surroundings. It is practically right on the beach, and both the beach and the pool area are absolutely stunning. It’s hard to believe places like this still exist! The food is exceptional. I loved the tuna steak so much that I had it twice during our stay! Zander and his team are some of the kindest and most attentive people you could ever hope to meet. We also loved the hotel’s locally made products and bought several things to take home. It’s wonderful to see how supporting the local community is part of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability. We loved the place so much that we never actually left! :-) Although it would certainly have been possible to take day trips and explore the surrounding area. We visited in October and had a few rain showers, but also plenty of sunshine and warm weather, so the rain was no problem at all. We really hope to come back one day!

The beach is a dream come through. The hotel is superb. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. Perhaps a water kettle would be nice. The staff is incredibly attentive. And we probably had the best arrack sour in Sri Lanka so far. The reason for my rating is the restaurant. While they accommodated all of our food restrictions and were very open to changes, the portions were a bit small. No fruit for breakfast in a tropical country makes you feel there’s something missing. Yates was average. This comment is with a constructive spirit behind it because Halcyon has everything for becoming “the” spot on the beach.

If you ever wonder were to go, Halcyon Mawella should be on top of your list. Our family could not point out one single thing that did not work. The sourroundings are amazing, the staff is one of a kind, the owner even takes care of the locals with a foundation, also worth a visit. They are just all very human and likeable. The chef even helped with a hand written reciepe for a wonderfull curry! And not to forget the sweeteste dog called Low Key, We will for sure someday be back, this must be how heaven on earth feels like. Thank you so much to all of you at Halcyon for giving us all these great memories. 🙏

Halcyon was by far the best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and incredibly comfortable. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the incredibly sweet and attentive staff. They went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and taken care of at all times. Their warm smiles and genuine kindness created such a wonderful atmosphere that made us feel right at home. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax and enjoy our trip. If you’re visiting Sri Lanka, Halcyon is definitely the place to stay!

Staying in Lumi Villa was beyond our wildest dreams. Every detail at Halcyon Mawella has been so thoughtfully curated from the furniture, materials, artwork and lighting all come together to create an effortlessly beautiful and peaceful space. The service is exceptional. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Fresh pool towels were waiting for us every morning, and the fridge was restocked daily with water, soft drinks and beer. The cocktails were so good they were almost dangerous! 😅 Our days were spent body boarding in the sea, climbing the rocks, relaxing by the pool, and simply enjoying the lovely garden. Without even leaving the property we saw a peacock, a land monitor, geckos, cows wandering along the beach, and, of course, plenty of dogs. Halcyon Mawella is one of those rare places that will stay with us long after we’ve left. It is truly something special.

What a place. Hotel was way beyond our expectations with amazing staff, food exceptional, and a beach side villa to top it off.

The best hotel—excellent staff, beach, and food. The location is very close to the bustling area of Hiriketiya; however, the hotel itself remains wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and spotless. It is worth every penny. The manager personally greeted us and explained the hotel’s initiatives and what they do for the local community, which made the atmosphere even more pleasant. If we are lucky enough to return to Sri Lanka, this will definitely be our first choice.
