Halcyon Mawella

If you ever wonder were to go, Halcyon Mawella should be on top of your list. Our family could not point out one single thing that did not work. The sourroundings are amazing, the staff is one of a kind, the owner even takes care of the locals with a foundation, also worth a visit. They are just all very human and likeable. The chef even helped with a hand written reciepe for a wonderfull curry! And not to forget the sweeteste dog called Low Key, We will for sure someday be back, this must be how heaven on earth feels like. Thank you so much to all of you at Halcyon for giving us all these great memories. 🙏

Halcyon was by far the best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and incredibly comfortable. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the incredibly sweet and attentive staff. They went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and taken care of at all times. Their warm smiles and genuine kindness created such a wonderful atmosphere that made us feel right at home. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax and enjoy our trip. If you’re visiting Sri Lanka, Halcyon is definitely the place to stay!

Staying in Lumi Villa was beyond our wildest dreams. Every detail at Halcyon Mawella has been so thoughtfully curated from the furniture, materials, artwork and lighting all come together to create an effortlessly beautiful and peaceful space. The service is exceptional. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Fresh pool towels were waiting for us every morning, and the fridge was restocked daily with water, soft drinks and beer. The cocktails were so good they were almost dangerous! 😅 Our days were spent body boarding in the sea, climbing the rocks, relaxing by the pool, and simply enjoying the lovely garden. Without even leaving the property we saw a peacock, a land monitor, geckos, cows wandering along the beach, and, of course, plenty of dogs. Halcyon Mawella is one of those rare places that will stay with us long after we’ve left. It is truly something special.

What a place. Hotel was way beyond our expectations with amazing staff, food exceptional, and a beach side villa to top it off.

The best hotel—excellent staff, beach, and food. The location is very close to the bustling area of Hiriketiya; however, the hotel itself remains wonderfully quiet and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and spotless. It is worth every penny. The manager personally greeted us and explained the hotel’s initiatives and what they do for the local community, which made the atmosphere even more pleasant. If we are lucky enough to return to Sri Lanka, this will definitely be our first choice.

This is a really lovely small boutique hotel with large comfortable rooms overlooking a most beautiful “ working” beach. By that, I mean the fishing boats go out every evening from here. The beach is pristine due to the efforts of the owner Xander and his charming manager Aneesa who run a foundation which not only cleans the beach of plastic and rubbish but also provides employment for women. Be sure to visit the foundation and buy some of their delicious chutneys and home made soaps. You can also get clothes custom made here. Back to the hotel. Breakfast is 5 star with a variety of dishes from Singhalese hoppers to a British fry up. The curd with Kittal and fresh fruit with granola was my favourite. We were treated with great kindness and it was fun to visit local ( excellent ) restaurants in a tuktuk at sunset. Walk the beach from left to right and you will effortlessly do your 10,000 steps on firm sand. The sea is crystal clear and beautiful but beware of the undertow and strong undercurrent. All in all we cannot recommend Halcyon Mawella more. Perfect for all ages with a safe pool for kids and a good menu if you want to stay in. Thanks to Aneesa and Xander for their hospitality, the late checkout and for moving our room with the minimum of fuss.

Had a great stay that definitely met our expectations. Room was beautiful and comfortable with much needed AC. Perfect, relaxing location with a beautiful pool and beach. The hotel has a newer chef who has upgraded the food which we enjoyed so much we didn’t feel the need to schlep into the busy town. Would definitely stay here again if we ever make our way back to Sri Lanka one day. The hotel also provides but they seem to be around especially if one is sensitive. Also special mention to the owner who is super friendly and hands-on enduring that the guests’ needs are being met. Thank you!
