What can I say? We return every year for a long weekend for a reason, it’s simply that good. If you had a very wealthy aunt with a beautiful old house in Jersey, staying at Longueville Manor would feel just like visiting her. From our very first contact with reception to make the booking, right through to the final day when we were graciously allowed to keep our room until 2pm for our early evening flight, everything was impeccable. We stayed in a beautiful suite overlooking the gardens and swimming pool, complete with a comfortable sofa for watching TV and a dining table and chairs, which were perfect for in‑room dining. Breakfast at Longueville is a highlight in itself, expertly overseen by managers Marzena and Luca. Everything is à la carte, including proper tea served with tea leaves and a strainer, and there’s an excellent selection of both hot and cold dishes. Our package included a three‑course dinner, and we chose to enjoy the legendary Sunday lunch – something of an institution at Longueville, attracting the great and the good of Jersey. It’s also a brilliant spot for people‑watching! The food was superb, and the roast beef is now expertly carved at the table by Luca, the restaurant manager. A new addition to the team this year was Aidan, who looks after the cheese board and has become impressively knowledgeable in a very short time. His recommendations – Buffalo Blue and Grès d’Alsace – are now permanent fixtures on our weekly shopping list! Leaving after such a wonderful weekend is always a little sad, so we were delighted that Brian, another Longueville institution, was there to wave us off. He has been part of the hotel for many years, and it’s always a pleasure to see him when we return. We will be back again next February for our spring break in Jersey. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff, both front and back of house, who always make our stay so comfortable and such a pleasure. Thank you, Dr Catherine Walker (also known to Brian as John and Kate!)
