Premium Lounge

I've been to Hong Kong so many times, but this is my first stay at Chungking Mansions. I came prepared, but it turned out to be much better than expected. The Filipino lady at the front desk was incredibly warm and friendly, and she even upgraded my room. For just over a hundred dollars, to get such a spacious and quiet room in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui was an absolute steal. I slept really well, and it was perfect for an overnight stay. The air conditioner was a wall-mounted unit, not a noisy window unit, which was fantastic.

We had to leave and find another hotel because this one felt incredibly dodgy. The shower was literally a hole, and you had to shower over the toilet. The beds felt like rocks with barely an inch of mattress. It didn't seem clean at all. The only positive was that the lady at reception was nice, but we absolutely do not recommend it, unless it's your absolute last resort and you can't find anything else or don't have money for other options. Sorry.

The location is very convenient for visiting popular spots and taking walks. It's a bit tricky to find the hotel the first time because there are many hotels in the building. The reception is on the 16th floor of Section A, and the building is right next to the airport bus stop.

Excellent value for money, I got a single room for the price of a capsule hotel. While Chungking Mansions can be crowded and chaotic, the property management has improved significantly compared to before (I saw police officers patrolling during both check-in and check-out). The guesthouse offers single rooms, which were perfectly adequate for a backpacker needing a place to rest. The cleanliness was decent; the towels and bedsheets were generally clean. The Indian staff at the front desk were very warm and polite, especially the gentleman (who I believe was Indian and had only been in Hong Kong for a month) who showed me to my room. He was incredibly genuine and enthusiastic, full of aspirations for Hong Kong and mainland China. Unfortunately, my English isn't great, and I forgot to take a photo with him.

Very poor hygiene. The blankets were dirty and the front desk staff had a bad attitude.

Simply perfect in the city center, very well located and perfect for a solo trip.
