Super 8 by Wyndham Old Saybrook

The woman at the front desk was very polite and helpful. The room wasn't the cleanest, there was either dust and/or mold on the valance and curtains. The floor was dirty, had to walk around with shoes or flip flops on because my feet were filthy from walking for 5 minutes. Looked like smeared blood on the wall and saw possibly a roach in the room.

The office was not open when we got there had to keep ringing the buzzer when we left in the morning there was no one in the office.

We sat in the lobby for over an hour with other guests with no staff, finally got a room with one double bed when we had been promised two beds earlier in the day when speaking with them. Room was double booked and other occupants had picked up keys earlier and came back at 2:30 am banging on door, I looked out window and heard them say “someone is in our room” they called the police who came at 6am to investigate whether we had broken into the room. No staff could be found and they ended up sleeping in their car and we got a poor nights sleep before having to drive home. They did comp us the night and were genuinely sorry for the mixup but it never should have happened with proper management. Also the property is in rough shape, duct tape floor repairs, stained tubs, plumbing backups. We booked because it said breakfast and pool but there were neither. Third party booking sites don’t keep up with amenities.

The check in person was nice and friendly. The pool was out of service. The rooms can definitely use a renovation including the flooring. The floor boards are sagging and can hear the creaking with each step. Better towels would be great as they’re a little rough. Also, shampoo and conditioner would be nice instead of just bar soap in the bathroom.

We did not end up staying here. We drove into the parking lot and drove right back out. I wasn't expecting much for the price. However, it looked like a homeless shelter. One of the doors looked like someone had tried to break in, and they just taped it up. It was scary looking. I would rather have slept in my car than stay here for even 1 night.

This is exactly what I would expect from a super eight. It was clean safe comfortable bed. Also AC worked good bathroom was cleaned. They don’t have breakfast being served there, but that’s not an issue for me. It’s in a safe location. Very close to downtown old Saybrook that has a lot of beautiful restaurants and shopping for the value. I would stay here again.

Check in was poor. Computer system was not working, so check-in took much longer than expected. Clerk had to manually write information on a piece of paper. Was given two room cards but neither of them worked to open the door to the room. It turned out that the batteries in the door entry system were dead. I was given room cards to a 2nd room, but it smelled like cigarette smoke in there. Refused the room and was told someone went to get batteries for the original room. Eventually got into the original room once batteries were replaced. Changed clothes for event I was attending and later in the evening when I returned, the room key did not work! Went back to desk and the room key was again reprogrammed and I was able to get into the room.

My room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The site was not well maintained as there was a lot of trash outside some rooms. There were also some cars in the parking lot that looked like they had not been moved for a while.

This place is awful!!! The electricity worked sometimes…. The room was barely passable clean, there was an electrical outlet that had wires exposed. Someone punched a hole in the wall of our bathroom. I’m pretty sure the women at the desk was drunk. I went to the desk to ask for towels there was none in our room the women at the desk popped up about 5 minutes later and told me she would bring towels in less then 10 minutes she never showed up… there where also multiple cigarette burns on the the blankets in a “non smoking room” the surrounding area is nice.
