Lympstone Manor Hotel Restaurant & Vineyard - Relais & Chateaux

Outstanding boutique hotel with Micheline restaurant. Location is good, the view is incredible. You can walk around their wine yard. Very comfortable rooms, good beds, nice artworks everywhere. The staff is very well trained, friendly and professional. Thank you team! Everybody working at the hotel made our stay as comfortable as possible.

Visited at the last minute for a two night break and stayed in Estuary view room which has great views from the balcony across the grounds of the estuary. The room is quite compact with a sofa. The bed is very comfortable though. The hotel is starting to look a bit tired in places, particularly the hall carpets that have a lot of stains. Staff all very friendly and helpful, especially Phil the concierge who was always on hand and went the extra mile. Sadly what surprisingly disappointed us the most was the food. We didn’t have the fine dining tasting menu so can’t comment on that. We did eat at the pool house and found the dishes good but not up to standard of 5 star. For example the prawn cocktail was like any you would get at a good pub. Breakfast was good but lacked that 5 Star variety and quality. As the pool house was closed Saturday night for a private function we opted for the light bites menu at the bar but wished we walked to the local pub. This is a bit limited and was expecting to see different options. The egg sandwich was very small bland and served with a few salad leaves. The panini, ham, Brie with sun dried tomatoes, came on what seemed like a dry old frozen baguette with no sun dried tomatoes. This would have fitted in well at an motorway cafe! I can honestly say the worse I have had in a 5 Star hotel. The Swann in Lympstone does a much better sandwich. For a venue that is renowned for fine dining the rest of the cuisine needs to keep up. A great location with nice walks along the estuary, excellent pool area to chill out while admiring the views.

Annual pool party was amazing. My sister & i had a fantastic time. Gorgeous food , drink & atmosphere. Been to Lympstone manor for lunch a few times but never been to a function. Definitely be back we loved it

You cannot get better staff that made you so welcome. The afternoon tea was to die for. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Michael and Pippa for sorting out for us. Cafe ex4 and the Salvation Army loved it. Thank you x

I booked this hotel expecting excellence and found our stay very disappointing. Each of the meals (Fine Dining, Pool House and 2 x breakfasts) errors were made in service. The dining room furniture was worn, while the cleanliness of the carpet in our room was lacking. There seemed to be a general need for more service staff to help things flow smoother. The hotel is in a beautiful location with incredible views of the estuary and they had nice touches, such as complimentary G&T in the room. However, I left rather deflated.

As we’re lovers of afternoon tea we decided to treat ourselves and go to Lympstone Manor. Sadly we were both disappointed. It was just okay, nothing special.

We had high expectations for this hotel. It is a Relais & Chateaux property and it looked beautiful from the photos. Two things became clear to me as we stayed there - 1) there is a fake pretentious attitude, particularly towards what they perceive to be Americans and 2) the level of service and rooms are not worth what you paid. Upon checking in, we were told we had to pre-pay for the stay in a rather rough manner. I wanted lunch and was sized up and told to eat in the pool house - which was not what I had in mind, but it was ok. The room lacked amenities and was very hot with one half operating fan. I made it very clear in advance that a quiet room was important and they assured me after downgrading the reservation that the room assigned was quiet. It was exactly the opposite - it was above a garbage dumping area and it was loud until well after 10 or 11 pm (we ended up closing our windows) and just sweated in the hot room all night. The restaurant never brought the after dinner drink we ordered and got our tea request mixed up in the morning. Plus, the spinach in the vegetarian breakfast had a rock in it and I had to go to the bathroom and spit it out. Unacceptable. In addition, the morning coffee service never came at the designated time and although we had checked with the front desk on the timing of a taxi both in the evening and the morning of departure, the taxi was still about 15-20 minutes late. The staff were the real issue though - very rude the entire stay. Perhaps R&C should take a few pointers from the Four Seasons in terms of customer service.

We had a very special and enjoyable time.If I were to mention just one small detail that could have made the experience even more personal, it would have been lovely to have been welcomed back to Lympstone Manor and acknowledged by name, particularly as we had stayed with you earlier this year.We were also asked on arrival whether we were celebrating a special occasion. We had mentioned this when making our booking, so it would have been a lovely touch for this to have been noted beforehand.These are only small observations and certainly did not detract from what was a wonderful experience. When visiting somewhere as beautiful and special as Lympstone Manor, a personal “welcome back” can make returning guests feel particularly valued.Thank you again for a memorable visit. Fabulous lunch at this gorgeous hotel, lovely views and gardens. Great ambience polite, knowledgeable staff, silver service, nice cocktails. From the first step over the threshold, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend. Loved the Decor in all the rooms on the ground floor! We will return if in the area in the future!
