Eboshiso

I stayed at this place during my hike through the Michinoku coastal trail. This is a good choice before you attempt Kurosakiso and Kitayamazaki coast. This can be reached easily from Horinai station. Cross the big bridge and walk a bit more, you can see the sign to the left. The hotel has nice indoor and outdoor onsen. Many locals come here to use the onsen. They probably have annual or life membership to use the onsen. It is a nice opportunity to chat with some of them. When I was there, it was raining and hence I could not enjoy the view, however, using onsen after hiking in the rain was quite relaxing. On a clear day, the ocean can be seen from the room window. Dinner can be ordered and is quite good at a reasonable price. The next day, the hotel shuttle dropped me to the train station which was quite nice, I did not have to walk in rain.

Old and dirty and not very welcoming. Thin futon

Really didn't enjoy our stay here - we checked out a night early! The futon is extremely uncomfortable and thin, we barely slept. They charge $15 extra to have an extra bit of bedding. No toilet in the room, there are shared hole toilets down the corridor. Washing is via a shared onsen which we usually enjoy, but as it's only open from 4am-8am it was a rush to get up and use it. The walls are so thin that the room next to us kept us awake all night. Couldn't even make a cup of tea as there was no kettle. We came here for the saltmaking experience but on arrival were told it wasn't possible. The owner is really rude and unpleasant. When we raised our grievances in the morning there was no effort to make the room more comfortable - we were told we would just have to leave and pay the full amount. Avoid if you can - go and stay in a bigger town nearby like Kiyu or Hachinohe.
