It's very close to the volcano, but it's really cold. You have to wear more clothes when you go out to eat at night. It's not cold when you light the fireplace in the house, but I didn't dare to take a shower because it was cold. However, the environment is really good and the privacy is also very good. The accommodation experience is different from that of a hotel. You can experience it.

We stayed in Hale Kalauea, it was wonderful! This room has glass on three sides and you look out at the rainforest. Carlos was so nice and very helpful. A delicious breakfast is provided, we had French toast, fruit and Hawaiian coffee. We were only a few minutes from Volcano National Park and Carlos texted me to let me know the volcano was erupting! We definitely recommend and would love to go back!

Pros: cute welcome cerimony, so close to volcano park, flashlights provided, nice fireplace to heat the room, cute rocking chairs perfect for morning coffee. Cons: stains on the quit they had on our bed, property is small with close by neighbors (one is a dog), our room was attached to the office so we had to keep our blinds closed because people could see right in. Shower curtain rod actually fell on my husband's head during his shower. Room had a dehumidifier which filled during the night then woke us up to a loud alarm before turning off. Our smoke detector was missing. And the light over the bathroom sink flickered. Summary: disappointed for the price. I Let the staff know before leaving and leaving a review for others to revise their expectations. They need to re-evaluate their price point.

From the moment we arrived we felt like family. Carlos and Drea were so welcoming and helpful. We were 2 miles from the National Park.

Volcano Village Lodge was definitely a unique experience. The highlight was probably getting to stay in a rainforest—something we may never have the opportunity to do again. The individual cabins are charming and each has its own character, surrounded by beautiful, lush vegetation. The woman at the front desk was also extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating. That said, the night was a bit rough. The cabin is not air-conditioned, and it was quite warm and muggy. There was also a constant cacophony of bird sounds throughout the night. If you’re a light sleeper, we highly recommend bringing earplugs or other ear protection! Our biggest issue, however, was the price. We found the lodge to be extremely overpriced for what it offers. We had accidentally booked Volcano Village Lodge instead of the much more famous Volcano House, which is actually located inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and sits right on the volcanic rim. Volcano Village Lodge is about seven minutes outside the park. While staying in a rainforest was certainly a memorable and unique experience, we wouldn’t stay here again. Unfortunately, for us, the value simply wasn’t there, and we can’t recommend it at the price we paid.

We weren’t sure which lodge/ hotel to book since we were just spending 1 night at the Volcano area- and I’m so glad we went with Volcano Village Lodge! Drea checked us in and was super helpful and friendly. Excellent service and she even suggested we have dinner at Pineapples when headed to Hilo ( the next day) - a great recommendation for a low key atmosphere with very nice food. The lodge was super private and very cozy. It’s just a 5 minute ride to the park so it was perfect for us to spend late afternoon and early morning at the park when it wasn’t full of tourists. Thanks you Drea for making the stay so nice!

Absolutely fantastic!!! The lodges are just spacious and beautiful, nicely equipped and surrounded by pure Hawaiian nature, very peaceful. The national park is very close. The very best was the staff, among the nicest I have experienced so far. We even got a specimen of volcanic rock from John (I hope that was his name) as a gift that had fallen onto his ground during the outbreak. The staff gave us precious tips for the best Big Island experiences. Breakfast was arranged in our lodge the day before, very convenient!

Fantastic tour! Our tour guide was knowledgeable- blending history with delicious foods to try. It gave us an opportunity to try things we might not otherwise know about and visit some great eateries. Was exactly the tour we hoped for and would highly recommend!
