The hassle of finding somewhere to park and dragging a suitcase through the streets to & from an hotel in a large town or city isn’t my idea of fun. I therefore always look for an hotel just outside. So, having parked in Girona’s huge free Aparcament La Copa, a short walk from the Cathedral, I spent the afternoon being a tourist then headed just 6kms north in a virtual straight line to stay at Hotel Palau de Girona. I must also tell you that the hotel is only 500 metres from where the north-south AP-7 motorway (junction 6) and the east-west C-66 meet. So wherever you’re coming from it’s really easy to find, has parking next to the reception and, from my point of view, was en-route to Cervià de Ter and the other villages I planned to visit. It’s a modern, bright hotel with a smart bar & restaurant. My room was large, stylish and really comfortable with an attractive cream & brown marble backboard to the beds plus a desk made from the same marble. Dinner in the covered outdoor area comprised a 3-course set menu with 5 choices for both entrantes & segundos and 4 for postres at a price of 15€. Not gourmet by any means but really good. One thing I must mention is that the hotel rooms don’t have a number. They have a name e.g. Pont de Pedra, Call Jueu, Benys Àrabs, Isaac el Sec. Mine was much easier to remember - La Carbonera - although I still had to look at the keyring when I arrived at the second floor landing just to make sure. I was pleased to have found this hotel which fitted everything I look for when I’m travelling around Spain.
