We had a wonderful stay at Howzit Hostel! 🌺 The hostel is perfectly located right in Hilo and was the ideal starting point for exploring the island. From there, we visited Volcanoes National Park, the stunning Green Sand Beach and Black Sand Beach and even watched the sunrise at Mauna Kea; truly unforgettable experiences! 🌋🌅 We also really enjoyed the breakfast — the pancakes were absolutely delicious! 🥞
The staff was friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Our room clean and very comfortable and we even had a bit of sea view
We highly recommend this Hostel to anyone visiting Big Island and would definitely stay there again. Mahalo 🌴

I am grateful that I booked this hostel. I arrived late (while the guests were sleeping), but the front desk responded to my bell ring within seconds and carried my heavy luggage upstairs. The entire check-in process was efficient. They prepared clean sheets, a pillow, and blanket. The dorm room was clean, quiet, equipped with light, mini-fan, and outlets in each bed. The bathrooms have individual shower rooms and several toilets. Shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, etc. were well stocked. Complimentary breakfast (chocolate pancakes) and coffee were provided. Other guests range from college students to seniors. Everyone was polite. The staff was definitely industrious, environmentally conscious, and friendly. Hope future guests will help this place keeping going like it currently is.

Very efficient and well-organized facility. I didn't appreciate the requirement to have my photo taken for check-in, since this information is already present on the ID provided.

It was so much fun chatting with friends from all over the world and exploring volcanoes and waterfalls together. The rooms were also quite nice, and I slept soundly every night. I would definitely consider coming back to the Big Island next time!

The presence of live volcanic eruption monitoring TVs was a thoughtful touch. It's about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop and is a very clean and quiet hostel. The rooms have locks for storing valuables.

The hotel is located on a main street near restaurants and a night market, so parking is difficult in the evening, but easier after 8 pm. The room has a high vantage point where you can hear all the street noises. There were cockroaches in the bathroom, and more than one. I didn't use the kitchen, but it seemed well-equipped. Check-in was smooth, but the hotel sent out too many messages to guests; collecting so much information and taking so many photos is unusual in the US.

If you're looking to save money, I'd highly recommend staying here. The bathrooms and showers are great! There are separate areas for men and women, and the women's side is very clean, which is what I like most.
