Le Vieux Logis

Beautiful hotel set in a lovely French garden with swimming pool. Rooms well equipped tho obviously constrained by the age of the building. Our room was accessed by a very steep and narrow staircase and the bathroom fittings, especially the hand held shower over the bath was very difficult to use. Housekeeping was good and the quality of the bed, bedsheets and towels was high. Improvements would include hot choices at breakfast cooked to order rather than the congealed scrambled egg kept barely warm in a help yourself server. Also our arrival was less than welcoming. The receptionist was more interested in talking to someone else and didn’t offer much of a greeting. Overall worth the money for the location, setting and unique environment. The two dinners we had at the hotel-owned Bistro de la Place were excellent and good value for money. We didn’t eat at the formal restaurant- too expensive and we don’t really like the old-school French regional dishes on offer.

Second time this holiday first experienced not so good My wife insisted we try again as we have a passion for good star rated restaurants But the menu was as boring as the time before season produce is good to use that was a bonus There are many other fish than river try the sea ones ,Once again Disappointed this will be my last review on this restaurant next year we will give it a miss

Nous avons retrouvé le Vieux Logis 30 ans après nous y être fiancés. Le lieu est toujours hors du temps. Un havre de paix, chargé d’histoire, au milieu d’une nature paisible. N’hésitez pas à en profiter également en hiver, le menu truffes est inoubliable.

This is a gem of a property featuring a 1 Michelin-starred restaurant. We had a newly decorated room with first class fixtures. A very comfortable place to stay.

We spent 5 days at Le Vieux Logis and enjoyed every minute of it. What a special place. Calm, peaceful, elegant & a bit rustic at the same time. Service was excellent. Sitting out facing the beautifully sculptured trees and bushes in the evening was delightful. The grounds of the hotel are amazing. Our stay was a welcome respite from city life.

This is a special place. Such an amazing history and story. The rooms are large and comfortable. The restaurants are incredible, which is necessary as the little town of Tremolat doesn’t have many food options. The grounds and the area are just magical. It’s a great place to curl up with a book and escape. We will be back for sure.

We loved our short stay, the hotel is an old building but well maintained. It’s very cozy and hospitable. The staff spoke enough English. The bistro and gastronomic restaurants were superb. This is a great stop in Dordogne.

We stayed 3 nights in the attic room [No 8] pictured on Tripadvisor although two steep and very narrow flights of stairs mean it wouldn't be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. While comfortable and reasonably quiet, it has an odd wedge-shaped bath with hand-held shower which were both tricky to use. Like many French hotels, there's a small wardrobe and no drawer space so we couldn't unpack! On our first night we had the Menu Estivale [130 euros] with an excellent and generously served wine pairing [25 euros] under the canopy of lime trees. Rather tough smoked duck breast was the only stumble but was swiftly replaced with noisette of veal from the a la carte menu. On the other nights we ate at Chez Julien in Paunat [also highly recommended] and in Les Eyzies. Breakfast [25 euros] included very good fresh fruit juice, bread and croissants and all the dishes were frequently replenished. There are several cafes in the village for those only wanting coffee. A key element of Le Vieux Logis's appeal is the exceptional service and attention to detail from the warm welcome at reception to restaurant staff ironing the linen before each table is laid. The setting is another key element and - although the beautifully laid out garden isn't enormous - it seemed to absorb guests without feeling over-crowded. The only exception was the arrival of a large [20+] noisy group of US cyclists who sat on the edge of the pool drinking cocktails. As the hotel is now on the Dordogne itinerary of the "Backroads" US cycling group, hopefully these influxes won't become a problem......

We had four nights here for a wedding nearby. The comfort room was very spacious and beautiful. Wonderful pool, breakfast, and surroundings. But the service was what made this place stand out. Estelle and staff were so kind and gracious, suggesting activities and arranging transportation. Would highly recommend and hope to return!
