As a loyal HUAZHU Hotels member and a long-time fan of JI Hotel, my recent stay at JI Hotel (Shanghai Xintiandi) was a significant letdown. This is purely an objective sharing of my personal experience, with no intention to badmouth.
1. The front desk check-in efficiency was low, and the staff's proficiency was lacking. In the middle of processing my reservation, they temporarily put it on hold to assist other guests. What should have taken a few minutes turned into a nearly 10-minute wait. I had booked for two nights, yet the front desk repeatedly asked me to confirm my stay duration, requiring me to pull up my booking records for verification. At the same time, I overheard the front desk actively informing other guests that their rooms were on the smaller side, which was a baffling practice. The front desk promised to send welcome fruits later, but they never arrived. While welcome fruits aren't essential, failing to deliver on a promise is a matter of service integrity.
2. The room's soundproofing was very poor. I was assigned a room at the end of the hallway, right next to a major elevated road. Even with the windows tightly shut, the continuous traffic noise was noticeable and easily disrupted my rest.
3. The bathroom facilities had an anti-human design. The toilet flush button was extremely hidden; I had to get down on the floor to find a small, illuminated button on the side of the toilet, which also required pressing downwards to flush. It's very difficult for first-time guests to discover, and the design is highly unreasonable.
I've always highly regarded JI Hotel's brand standards. This stay, however, fell short of expectations in various aspects. I hope the hotel improves its service procedures and hardware design.
