China Xuanhe Dragon Toy Scenic Area

Catch the tail end of summer and experience paddleboarding in the magical caves of Mashan Xuanhe. With your headlamp sweeping across the stalactites, the underground river and the sound of water make you feel like you've stumbled onto the set of "The Lost Tomb." 📍 Navigation: Mashan Xuanhe Longmian Station (Launch point at Cave 8) 🕐 Duration: Approx. 145km / 2h 🛶 Route: Enter at Cave 8, return the same way (passing through the Cave 7 area). The whole trip takes 1.5–3h. The current is gentle and beginner-friendly. 📝 Tips: 1️⃣ The village road for the last few kilometers before the destination is very narrow and difficult for passing vehicles. Beginners should drive slowly and carefully. 2️⃣ You can drive yourself or join a tour. This time, I went with Kunpo Water Sports (bus + paddleboard + life jacket + guide), which was very stress-free. 3️⃣ The stalactites inside the cave are stunning, but it's pitch black, so don't wander off. Remember to bring a headlamp or flashlight. 4️⃣ In the open-air river section in the middle, the sunlight hits the water, turning it a clear, beautiful emerald green. If it's sunny, be sure to protect yourself from the sun—bring sunglasses, sun-protective clothing, and a hat. 5️⃣ The water for rinsing off on the way back is cold, so don't expect too much. 6️⃣ Before going in October, search for "Mashan Xuanhe real-time conditions" to check water levels. 7️⃣ Recommended for ages 6+. If bringing children, they must wear life jackets and stay close to the guide. 8️⃣ On the winding mountain road back to Nanning at 5 PM, there's a high chance you'll encounter a herd of Mashan black goats. 📸 Must-take photos Entrance to Cave 8 Cave 8 hall: Paddleboard + stalactites for a perfect atmospheric shot Exit of Cave 8 Open-air river section: Wear a swimsuit/quick-dry clothing for water fights Entrance to Cave 7 Cave 7 waterfall 🎒 Gear Headlamp, non-slip water shoes, waterproof phone pouch, quick-dry clothing/swimsuit, change of clothes, sun protection (sunglasses, clothing, hat), snacks...

🚗 Transportation: It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Nanning, and 1 hour from Mashan County. Location: Shangtun Dock, Mashan (see the last picture) 🌟 A quick note upfront: This was our first time paddleboarding, and the kids’ first time too. As long as you don’t move around wildly, you basically won’t fall into the water, and it’s very easy to operate. The water inside the cave is quite calm, and with life jackets, it’s very safe. [Yeah] ⛰️ There’s no commercial clutter here, just flowing water, stalactites, and peaceful breezes. You enter and exit the same way. Sometimes you’re stunned by the scenery ahead, then you turn around and say “wow” again. [Tiptop] ⚠️ 1. Bring a waterproof backpack and a towel in case you fall in and need to dry off. Use a waterproof case for your phone. 2. Swimwear isn’t mandatory, but your pants will definitely get wet, so it’s best to wear shorts. There are restrooms at the entrance for changing. 3. It’s not cold inside the cave, but there’s a section outdoors where you paddle, so wear a sun-protective shirt. 4. Paddleboards are rented on site. A guide leads groups of six into the cave. There’s no time limit on the rental. We played for about 3 hours total, so bring some snacks to recharge during the three-hour round trip. [TeaDrinker] 📷 Although it was the May Day holiday, there weren’t many people when we went! The key is to go early! Arrive around 10:30 to 11:00. We were the first group to enter with the guide and set up lights, so there are hardly any people in the photos. It gets busier in the afternoon. 🚣 We went to caves 7 and 8. Inside, it’s pitch dark, especially at the entrance where there’s only one light placed on a rock every so often (see photo 2). All photos were taken near the cave entrance where there was some light.

When traveling to Nanning, the most anticipated destination is Xuanhe in Mashan. I was attracted by the scenery of Caves No. 7 and 8 here 🤩 So I booked a 1️⃣-day tour two days in advance! It takes about 2.5 hours by car from Nanning to Mashan. After arriving at the destination, take a break, have something to eat, learn some paddleboarding skills, and then you can get on the water~ The time on the water is 4️⃣ hours in total~ The water surface is very calm~ and it’s still like mung bean water!!! Drifting on the water is very pleasant 😌. When entering the cave, the whole atmosphere changes; the cave is magnificent and mysterious, with very impressive stalactites! Nature’s craftsmanship is amazing 👍~ The popular photo spots are really photogenic, no matter how you shoot, it looks great!!! You can also see some wild fruits and protected animals on both sides of the riverbank. Being outdoors is always full of surprises~ It is recommended to bring clean clothes to change into, as well as snacks~ There are no restaurants or convenience stores nearby—only changing rooms and restrooms 🚻

After living in the city for a long time, it's inevitable that you'll find the reinforced concrete to be a bit cold. I wanted to live in nature for a few days, so I chose the Longwan Shanyu Homestay in the Xuanhe Longwan Resort. During the day and night, there are no other sounds besides birdsong and insects chirping. It's especially suitable for meditation! I stayed in a family room, a two-story loft structure. Upstairs, there are two suites, each with two 1.8m beds. The space is very large, and they don't affect each other. The bathroom has a smart toilet installed, so your butt won't freeze in the winter. There's also automatic flushing, butt washing, and automatic drying, which is very modern. Now that it's almost May, you don't even need to turn on the air conditioner. It's very cool.
