Villa Grand Voile - Christopher Coutanceau

I am in two minds about this establishment- many of the Relais & Chateau values are upheld :- hospitality and kindness, diversity & awareness of sustainability. However, we found the first room we stayed in downstairs to have no natural light due to frosted glass, noise from the bar down the street and an odd arrangement of a shower in the room. The second upstairs room was an improvement. Breakfast was served in a busy conservatory - breakfast was from a menu / service was kind but slow, ingredients good but somehow the meal wasn’t as expected. All in all we wouldn’t return but would give an 7/10.

This hotel is phenomenal! The service is impeccable. I believe The Villa Grand Voile is a destination in itself. What a wonderful place to stay. It's clean, the bedding is so comfy, did I mention the service and the convivence to downtown. Don't miss out on this one, Incredible hospitality.

deceptive on the hotel quality / price ration but excellent for the breakfast and location. A plus is the absence of waiting list for Coutanceau restaurant.

We loved this hotel and we liked La Rochelle. Nice room and friendly helpful staff. It is well located being only a few minutes walk from the old town, the harbour, ferries and towers, and plenty of restaurants, however seems well separated from the tourist crowds.

A delightful place to stay. There was great attention to detail in every respect. Would highly recommend.

What a fantastic boutique hotel made all the better by the fantastic staff. I don’t know where they train/recruit/clone these people but each one is a shining example of what service in hospitality should be - they are quite superb. My partner and I stayed at Villa Grand Voile in La Rochelle for 5 nights in May 2025. The hotel is in an excellent location: it is very close to the historic harbor, and yet it is not on the main road so there is less noise. The building and room are beautiful, and immaculately clean. The hotel breakfast / brunch is excellent, and delicious snacks / desserts are provided with the daily room cleaning. The hotel staff is professional, but very warm and attentive as well. It is evident that the hotel owners and staff aim to make each customer's stay as pleasant as possible, since the service goes above and beyond what I normally expect for hotel service.
