Hotel Marqués de Aguilar

Having arrived in Santander on the ferry late afternoon we decided not to travel too far that day. A friendly welcome on arrival and great customer service from all the staff. The room was clean, basically furnished but nevertheless very comfortable. The booking site mentioned a restaurant. The hotel does not serve food from their kitchen but serves food apparently sourced from outside from 2100h onwards. There are a number of restaurant bars in the town but all the kitchens appeared to be closed on the Monday we stayed. Breakfast was good, no hot options but fruit, cold meats and cheeses etc. The hotel has their own parking there is also street parking opposite the hotel.

Located just outside the main square with easy parking. Unexceptional from the outside but a clean decent sized room. No restaurant but a bar and good breakfast. Very good value at €80 B&B. From here it is only one hour’s drive from the Santander ferry so an ideal place to stay

Very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Marqués de Aguilar. The rooms were clean and the staff was courteous and helpful.

We had a 4 star experience on our one night stay. The room was so spacious and the bathroom and shower were fabulous. Secure parking was provided for our motorcycle free of charge. The hotel itself is only steps away from the town and whereas you get the impression you are situated in a residential area, just walk a couple of steps to the river and follow it over the bridge into the old town...beautiful location. The reception staff were the best, the complimentary bag of mini cookies helped ! Breakfast was good and included in our room rate. We will certainly stay again.

We warned them in advance that I was disabled and not very mobile following a recent surgery and we’d be arriving Saturday evening about 7.30pm after a 9-10 hour car journey. They gave us no warning that the hotel restaurant and bar were both closed and there was no room service. They then told us we could order from nearby restaurants but there were zero supporting menus in reception or in the room - so we had to call the restaurants who were reluctant to deliver. By now it was getting dark and my wife was very reluctant to try and search out food alone from nearby restaurants in case she was mugged. This is the first time I have ever struggled to source food or drinks from a €100 per night hotel. Frankly - if this is their standard of service they should be out of business as soon as possible.
