Le Secret

We had an enjoyable 1 night stay in Ile de Re on our way down to Bordeaux. Everthing was perfect, especially Le Secret. From the moment we stepped inside we knew we had found somewhere special. Our beautiful and very comfortable room opened out into a tranquil walled garden and was flooded with the afternoon sunshine. It felt like walking onto a dream. The whole building has so much character and has been very carefully restored and curated creating a stylish and tranquil hideaway only metres away from the bustling harbour front of St Martin de Re. We couldn’t recommend this place more. Thank you Jerome and team.

Lovely old property, wonderful curated collection of furnishing and furniture, very friendly people and perfect location next to the harbour.

A secluded gem in the bustling heart of St Martin. Jerome has created a beautiful guesthouse that has a home from home feel. The decor is just stunning, and we thoroughly enjoyed private drinks in the Lanternon overlooking the port. We will be booking again.

The hotel is in a great location

The best thing about this guest house is the central location. It is right next to the harbour and the hustle and bustle around it. However, the whole time we were in the hotel we felt like we were intruding. The room was spartan and rather stuffy. You can’t make a cup of tea in your room. There is a kettle and tea bags in the communal area but at 8pm the kettle is removed so too bad if you feel like a cuppa after that in your room. Breakfast was so so. A few more pots of jam to go round all the tables might be an idea instead whipping the preserves from in front of the (paying) guests as they eat their breakfast. Didn’t use the little pool in the garden. The cover seemed to be on it most of the time although some people used it for dips in the late afternoon. Not the most relaxing place I ever stayed in.

Le Secret is a significantly over-priced guest house. While the rooms photograph well, the service is lacking. Breakfast is an extra, linen was not changed during our stay (5 days), towels were changed only once. No air conditioning and one of the rooms we had did not have windows, so the family using that room had to sleep with the door open! This is not what we were expecting. Unfortunately, the owner is clearly taking advantage of the location. At half the price it would still be expensive.

Perfection and peace Lovely hosts, couldn’t do more for us. Location was incredible, about 10 steps from the harbour front. The room was perfect, had all we needed and was beautifully decorated. The pool was ideal, small but just what we needed. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

Location wise this hotel is second to none, being in the Harbour. from the moment you enter you see the mix of history with considered style and architecture, that works perfectly. If you get chance to small room at the top of the hotel is perfect for seeing the whole of St Martin de Re whilst being able the reflect and relax. An amazing place to stay
