Barony Castle Hotel

Well it was once my family home, I come from the Murray's of black barony on my mother's side. Everyone was very kind and helpful, the place looks like it could do with a lick of paint but it is an ancient building I suppose. The ground and surrounding trees are beautiful, the ceilings could be higher but I suppose people weren't so tall back in those days although my grandfather was 6 foot 5 and I'm 6 foot 2 so I think my family are mostly quite tall. It was grand but not as grand as I had imagined from the photos and my mental image of the place having never visited before but knowing it was built by my aristocratic family. I half expected a free cup of tea and a slice of cake which I jokingly mentioned to the staff when I booked my stay 😂, but you know as with any chain these personal privileges can't be authorised without going to head quarters probably in some other country like America?

Wonderful experience with my nan’s

We were offered an upgrade to a suite at a much reduced rate and accepted the offer. The room was huge comfortable and well equipped for a pleasant stay. However the room and bathroom looked as if they hadn't been used for a while. In need of an update and tired it also could have been cleaner. A bit disappointing. On saying that the rest of the hotel was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were all helpful and friendly, and attentive. The food was excellent and the menus had a great selection to choose from. I would definitely visit again, but as the standard rooms are more modern and comfortable I would ask to view any room before agreeing to any update

great location and striking building. Good food. Breakfast was less good as self service with many steps and food not topped up when empty.

Fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. Reception staff were friendly, informative and accommodating on arrival. Staff in the bars and restaurants were very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast was fantastic and plenty of parking was available

Car is essential as hotel located away from village. Spacious car park. Hotel has big park around with well maintained footpaths. Although, room required some maintenance, shower had some minor mould patches, bed was noisy and unstable. Room didn’t had A/C and walls had very little insulation, we could hear our neighbours switching lights or sockets on and off.

We stayed on floor 2 in a classic double room - quite dated, the toilet made the loudest most horrendous noise when flushed for 20 seconds, the bath was greasy with hair in it and the walls are paper thin! I have emailed management and told the reception of these issues along with being kept up until 3am with noises from every single direction, neighbors toilets also made that noise and god the headboard banged and shook with whatever next door were doing all night. I was offered 30% off the next stay, but I would not stay again - save your money and go elsewhere as you will not get a good nights sleep - not value at all for £137 a night, was like a loud hostel
