Shangri-La Surabaya

The hotel location is quite good, and the overall facilities are decent as well. However, it feels a bit dated and the renovation wasn't done very well—there was a faint musty smell. Also, it lacks a self-service laundry room, which is a standard feature in domestic hotels, offering only expensive paid laundry services instead.

The breakfast selection was rich and tasty, and the service was excellent. We even received a welcome gift, and the purple sweet potato chips were delicious. However, the room had a stuffy smell, like mold from the carpet, probably due to a lack of sunlight and ventilation. The facilities were a bit old, and we encountered minor issues like a leaky iron and a wardrobe that didn't open and close smoothly. Overall, it was decent for the price.

This is probably the most affordable Shangri-La hotel. Security is very strict—both cars and guests have to go through security checks upon entry. The check-in process at the hotel takes a bit too long, which easily leads to long queues. The room was quite nice, but many of the additional services come with very high fees. The swimming pool is on the ground floor, and wearing a swim trunk isn't strictly required, which is a nice touch. The pool has varying depths; the 2.4-meter section is quite dangerous and not recommended for the unprepared—it's much safer to walk over to the 1.4-meter area to get in.

The room wasn't very spacious, but the swimming pool was beautiful, with separate pools for both children and adults.

The view outside the hotel window is quite nice. When checking in, you can request a high-floor room from the front desk. The room itself is decorated in an old-money style, which feels very high-quality. It's more than spacious enough for one person.

It's acceptable given the price, meaning it offers good value for money.

The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The staff member who checked us in was extremely friendly. When she found out we were heading to Mount Bromo for sunrise that night, she shared her experiences and even gave us complimentary hand warmers, which were incredibly useful given how cold it gets while waiting for the sunrise. The hotel is also conveniently located near a large shopping mall and many restaurants.
