Many friends warned me that the Dominican Republic could be a hit or miss, but we were so lucky to choose this hotel – our entire trip went incredibly smoothly.
The facilities are new, and security is top-notch. The hotel staff are generally very friendly, and we constantly saw people cleaning the beach. Hot towels were always available by the pool, no matter the time. Room service was available 24/7, so even though we arrived late at night, we still got dinner.
The hotel boasts a total of 6 bars, 4 lunch spots, 5 dinner restaurants, plus a coffee/dessert/ice cream bar. The breakfast selection was extensive. For lunch, the Mediterranean restaurant above the pool is definitely worth trying. The Italian restaurant served the best dinner, while the Japanese restaurant (Teppanyaki) offered the best service and was the most surprising, with interactive performances and even dancing for birthdays. The French restaurant, which I was most looking forward to, was quite mediocre, but their champagne was excellent. The only drinkable coffee was from the coffee bar; the breakfast coffee was undrinkable.
The hotel had a wide variety of activities every day. You could do yoga during the day, and at night there were music performances and magic shows, creating a fantastic atmosphere.
However, there were a few downsides:
1. The Wi-Fi in the room was terrible, practically non-existent (this was the biggest drawback).
2. The mini-bar in the room had very few snacks.
3. The hotel is far from the airport, and there's no free shuttle service, even for a four-night stay.
4. The daybeds by the beach surprisingly required reservations.
