We came here because my wife had received a gift certificate for a massage, and we decided to make a day of it by adding lunch and access to the indoor pool. There is a lot to like about this place. The setting is beautiful, the cocktails, wine and food were excellent, and the restaurant service was very good. The indoor pool was relaxing, and we both had wonderful massages. Unfortunately, what should have been an entirely enjoyable experience was overshadowed by two uncomfortable incidents involving payment. When we arrived, no one was at the front desk, so we went directly to the restaurant. We explained to the person who showed us to our table that my wife had a gift certificate and that we were combining it with lunch, the pool and an additional massage for me. Despite explaining this in both French and English, there seemed to be some confusion about how the package worked. After lunch, since no one was around to explain what we should do, we got up and walked toward the front desk specifically to clarify the package and pay for our lunch (€27 per person). As we were leaving the restaurant, our waiter looked at us in a way that clearly gave us the impression he thought we might be leaving without paying. This was uncomfortable, particularly since we were walking directly to reception to find out how and where we were supposed to pay. This time there was someone at the front desk. We explained the situation again—both in French (I am French) and English (my wife is American). He was very helpful and kindly explained that lunch should be paid separately, which we immediately did. He then accompanied us to the spa, where another staff member explained the procedure. We paid for my massage, while my wife’s massage had already been paid for through her gift certificate. We enjoyed the pool and both had excellent massages. Afterward, my wife even purchased a gift from the spa shop for a friend in New York. We left tips for both massage therapists, thanked the staff and the gentleman at reception for his help, and walked to our car. Just as we were about to leave, we were approached by the same front desk employee, who had apparently received a call saying that my massage had not been paid for. Standing in the parking lot, we showed him proof that it had been paid. There was still uncertainty, so I suggested that we all go back inside to resolve the matter rather than continue the discussion in the parking lot. Back at reception, a manager came over and told us quite directly that my massage had not been paid. Once again, we explained that it had and showed proof of payment. After checking, she finally realized that we were correct and the massage had indeed been paid for, and she apologized. We appreciated the apology, but by that point the situation had become unnecessarily embarrassing. Twice during what was supposed to be a relaxing day, we were made to feel as though there was a concern that we might leave without paying, despite the
