Prince Kung's Palace Museum

8.6
4.8/5
38k reviews
Prince Kung's Palace Museum is located by the Shichahai lakeside and stands as one of the best-preserved princely mansions from the Qing dynasty in Beijing. It originally served as the residence of Heshen, a powerful official during Emperor Qianlong's reign. After Heshen's downfall, the property was granted to Prince Qing Yonglin, and later to Prince Gong Yixin during the Xianfeng era, hence the name "Prince Kung's Palace." This mansion witnessed the entire decline of the Qing dynasty, earning the saying "One Prince Kung's Palace, half the history of the Qing dynasty." The complex features a mansion in the front and a garden at the rear, both laid out along central, eastern, and western axes with meticulous order and grandeur. The mansion consists of multiple siheyuan courtyards connected along a central axis: The central Yinan Hall, roofed with green glazed tiles, follows the specifications of a prince's main hall. On the eastern route, the two-courtyard complex of Ledao Hall and Duofu Pavilion once served as the residence of Heshen's son Fengshen Yinde and Princess Hexiao of the Gulun rank, with Ledao Hall later becoming Prince Gong's living quarters. The western route features delicate refinement, with Xijin Study standing out particularly – its partitions are entirely made of exquisitely carved nanmu wood, modeled after the Ning Shou Palace in the Forbidden City. This extravagant construction later became one of Heshen's listed crimes. At the mansion's end stands a two-story elongated building commonly called "Ninety-nine and a half rooms," its rear wall punctuated by a row of variously shaped decorative windows. Legend claims this was the treasure vault and marks the boundary between mansion and garden. The garden, named Cuijin Garden, was reconstructed by Prince Gong's commissioned artisans, blending the charm of Jiangnan landscapes with northern architectural layouts. Its three marvels are the Western-style gate carved from white marble, the stele inscribed with the character "Fu" (blessing) by Emperor Kangxi, and the grand all-wood theater. Hidden in the Secret Cloud Cave within rockeries, the "Fu" stele conceals wishes for numerous descendants, abundant harvests, talent, longevity, and blessings in its strokes—easily missed if one isn't attentive. The theater, an enclosed wooden structure, reportedly projects vocals throughout without amplification. Bat motifs dominate the garden's "blessing" theme: the Bat Pool, Bat Hall, and painted beams interplay harmoniously. From the Moon-Inviting Platform, visitors overlook the entire garden, while the Winding Stream Pavilion preserves the refined legacy of ancient floating wine cup poetry. When touring, you may first follow the central axis to see the mansion, then pass through the western gate to enter and appreciate the garden in detail. There are usually more travelers visiting during holidays, so it's advisable to start early and allow enough time to slowly savor the history and details of this princely mansion.Beijing · 51.2 km from Langfang

Beijing Happy Valley

Beijing Happy Valley is a large cultural theme park developed by OCT Group, opened in 2006 and covering approx. 560,000 m². It consists of seven themed zones: fjord forest, Aegean harbor, lost Maya, Shangri-La, sweet kingdom, ancient civilization Atlantis, and happy times. From Nordic fjords and Aegean charm to Mayan ruins and Tibetan mysteries, the journey feels like switching scenes between continents, with themed views, rides, and live performances unfolding layer by layer, offering fun for both thrill-seeking youngsters and families with kids. Signature rides mostly involve "flying" and "plunging": the flying roller coaster "crystal wing" suspends passengers face-down, gliding over the park like a hang glider; "extreme speed" accelerates instantly via catapult launch, mimicking the G-force of an F1 race start; the jaw-dropping "odyssey journey" log flume dives into water with a soaking splash, especially popular in summer. For a breather, board the "energy collector" for a slow aerial panorama, or try Shangri-La's "Himalayan eagle·music roller coaster" and "golden wings over snowland," followed by the "Yarlung Zangbo rafting." Live shows set it apart from similar parks: the grand oriental myth spectacle "golden mask dynasty" has run for years at OCT Theater, while Shangri-La hosts the old Beijing stunt show "swallow Li San" daily, alongside daytime parades and nighttime illuminations that transform the park. Expect long queues for popular rides—hit top attractions like extreme speed and crystal wing early; water rides may soak you, so pack a raincoat; some thrill rides have height restrictions, making the vibrant, gentle-paced sweet kingdom ideal for families with kids.Beijing · 40.1 km from Langfang

The Badaling Great Wall is renowned as one of the Nine Strategic Passes under heaven, combining majestic cliffs with picturesque greenery to form the most spectacular section of the Ming Dynasty fortifications. Living up to the Chinese saying "He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true hero," this remains the premier choice for most Chinese visitors to experience the Wall. The fortress gate exhibits a trapezoidal shape, narrower on the east and wider on the west, featuring two gate towers. The eastern arch bears the inscription "Juyong Waizhen" (Frontier Town of Juyong), while the western gate displays "Beimen Suoyue" (Key to the Northern Gate). North of the fortress stretches the 12-tower Northern Wall section, while to the south lies the less crowded Southern Wall with 7 watchtowers. If time permits, we recommend exploring the Southern Wall first before tackling the more popular Northern section. ▲Walk Through Six Centuries of Golden History: A Visual Feast of Vermilion Foliage Blanketing the Great Wall ▲ As night descends, the Badaling Great Wall transforms into a gilded dragon winding through shadowed peaks, its illuminated battlements whispering tales of millennia - where imperial splendor meets enduring mystery beneath constellations of golden light. ▲Cloaked in winter's crystalline mantle, the Badaling Great Wall becomes a silver serpent coiled between snow-draped peaks, its ancient stones gilded by dawn's golden raysChina · Beijing

Today I signed up for a guided tour of Prince Gong's Mansion with Director Wang, and the experience was excellent. He explained the key locations in great detail, such as the Western-style Gate and the Grand Theater, covering their historical context and architectural features. He didn't dawdle during the stops, clearly distinguishing between important and secondary points, making it easy and enjoyable to listen to. Highly recommended!

This visit to Pop Mart City Park exceeded my expectations! The staff were all incredibly polite and welcoming, patiently helping with directions, queuing, and interactions, making me feel comfortable from the moment I entered the park. The mascots in the park were so cute, and the interaction was very engaging, resulting in great photos. It truly provided a lot of emotional value, making me feel both healed and happy. There were more games than I expected, keeping me entertained and highly engaged throughout. The biggest surprise was winning so many prizes! Carrying my spoils as I left, I felt the ticket price was absolutely worth it! Overall, I highly recommend it; it's suitable for friends, couples, and anyone who loves Pop Mart.

Tiananmen Square is a place that hundreds of millions of people yearn for; it is a symbol of the Republic, and every tourist visiting Beijing takes a photo in front of Tiananmen. However, advance reservations are essential, and security checks are a must. The only parts of the Tiananmen area open to the public are the Zhengyangmen Gate Tower, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Tiananmen Gate Tower, and the National Museum. Every year during the National Day holiday, Tiananmen Square is decorated with flowers for photos, and you can arrive early to watch the flag-raising ceremony. In short, a day trip to Beijing can include both Tiananmen and the Forbidden City, leaving a lasting impression of the capital's splendor.

Purchase tickets online in advance; simply scan your ID card at the ticket gate for quick entry. This is my second time climbing the Great Wall in several years; the last time was in early May, and this time it's in mid-October. I climbed the south route to the seventh floor and then back, and the north route to the eleventh floor and down. I also visited the Bear Park along the way. The entire trip was on foot, and it was a great experience.
