Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, also known as the Terracotta Army, is located about 1.5 kilometers east of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and forms part of the extensive necropolis. There were more than a thousand terracotta soldiers unearthed here, each with a different facial expression. Standing before the massive underground army, you will feel the extraordinary might of the Qin Emperor that enabled him to unify six warring states two thousand years ago. The Qin Emperor Ying Zheng began building the mausoleum for himself at the age of 13. Nearly 720000 men and 38 years were required to complete this vast project.China · Xi'an

One of the four major grottoes of China and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Longmen Grottoes are a trove of 1000 years of Buddhist art treasures. Bounded by the Yi River, the caverns are divided into two sections at East Hill and West Hill. The caverns at East Hill contain mostly Tang dynasty (618-907) works, while the caverns at West Hill were cut out during the Northern, Sui, and Tang dynasties and contain the carvings that are most representative of the site. The Buddha and bodhisattva sculptures that inhabit the caverns are carved into an endless variety of poses and expressions of mercy and kindness, while the caves themselves lend a stately and dignified atmosphere. The artistry of these sculptures is truly a priceless inheritance of Buddhist art.Luoyang · 69.9 km from Mianchi

History background: Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest of the Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an. It is one of the landmark attractions of Xi'an. The museum was planned in 1983, started in the summer of 1986, and officially opened on June 20, 1991. It was named Shaanxi History Museum. In 2016, Shaanxi History Museum was selected as "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Cultural Relics Society and the Chinese Architectural Society. Museum Features: Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum, and its completion marks a new milestone in the development of China's museum industry. This museum is a Tang-style building complex with a "central hall and four corner towers". The main and secondary buildings are well-organized, the heights are staggered, and the momentum is solemn. It integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times. The museum covers an area of 65,000 square meters, and houses more than 380,000 cultural relics ranging from simple stone tools used in the initial stage of ancient humans to various artifacts in social life before 1840, covering a time span of more than one million years. The cultural relics are not only numerous and diverse, but also of high quality and wide value. The collections in the museum are dazzling and exquisite. It is an art hall that showcases the history and culture of Shaanxi and ancient Chinese civilization, and is known as the "Pearl of the Ancient Capital, the Treasure House of China." There are many treasures in the museum, including bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, pottery figurines from various dynasties, gold and silver utensils from the Han and Tang dynasties, and murals from Tang tombs. Most of them are treasures from the prosperous periods of the Han and Tang dynasties, and some of them are fine items that are prohibited from leaving the country. Collection treasures: There are three exhibition halls in the center of the museum. The first exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the prehistoric civilization of Lantian ape-man 1.15 million years ago to the Qin Dynasty; the second exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the Han Dynasty and the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties; and the third exhibition hall is mainly cultural relics from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Each exhibition hall has its own treasure. There are special exhibition halls on the east and west sides of the central hall. On the west side, there is a "Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Treasures (Treasure Hall, Cultural Relics Unearthed in Hejiacun)", where many fine gold and silver wares from the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were transferred to be exhibited. On the east side, there is a "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition", which exhibits a number of authentic Tang Dynasty tomb murals. The tripod The tripod is placed in the first exhibition hall at the entrance of the museum, and it can be said to be the treasure of the first exhibition hall. The replica is placed here, and the original is kept in the warehouse. Inscription on the outer wall: The inscription "All under heaven is the king's land; all the people are the king's subjects" reflects the land ownership system in the Western Zhou Dynasty. There are four lines of inscriptions with 28 characters on the inner wall of the Yi Ding. The general meaning is: In early August of a certain year, Wang Jiang took back the land originally given to Shi Lu and gave it to Yi, who then made this tripod to commemorate it. Queen's Seal: One of the treasures worth seeing in the second exhibition hall is the jade seal of the empress of the Han Dynasty, which is displayed separately. The seal is made of Xinjiang Hetian mutton-fat jade and is engraved with a Chihu, symbolizing royal power. Three-color camel figurines carrying music: This world-famous tri-color camel figurine carrying music is located in the third exhibition hall of Shaanxi History Museum. Its overall appearance and color are well preserved. There are seven men sitting on the camel's back, holding different musical instruments in their hands. Among them, the figurine holding the clapboard is listening attentively, as if intoxicated by the wonderful music. The woman in the middle is performing, and the camel opens its mouth wide and looks up to the sky, as if it is also singing with its master. Gold-inlaid animal head agate cup: This cultural relic, located in the special exhibition "Tang Dynasty Relics Special Exhibition", is one of the first 64 national treasures listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage that are never allowed to be exhibited abroad. There are also many other treasures such as black-glazed oil-drip bowls, green-glazed porcelain pots with handles, gilded silver bamboo-joint copper incense burners, gold bowls with mandarin duck and lotus petal patterns, and so on.China · Xi'an

Luoyang Museum

The Luoyang Museum was established in 1958 and fully opened to the public on April 16, 2011. It is a comprehensive museum integrating cultural relic collection, exhibition display, and social education. Its collections span the long history of Luoyang as an ancient capital of thirteen dynasties. The main building stands like a giant ding (ritual vessel), symbolizing the "establishment of the capital in Luoyang." Its solemn and majestic facade itself serves as a popular photo backdrop. The large-scale permanent exhibition "Heluo civilization" unfolds along the timeline of prehistoric times, the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties, the Han and Wei dynasties, the Sui and Tang dynasties, and the Five Dynasties and Northern Song period, connecting thousands of years of Luoyang's capital history into a complete viewing experience. The treasure hall on the second floor rotates displays of representative artifacts from the collection, including the Cao Wei white jade cup, the Northern Wei clay Buddha face sculpture, and the vividly expressive Northern Wei painted pottery figurine of two women holding hands, affectionately called the "best friends figurine" by visitors, all worth pausing to admire. In the Tang tri-color ceramics hall, the rare and majestic black-glazed tri-color horse and the massive Eastern Han stone artifacts are equally popular. The palace artifacts hall displays Qing Dynasty imperial artifacts transferred from the Forbidden City, including a golden nanmu wood tower carved from a single log and adorned with gilded miniature Buddhas, exuding royal grandeur. The stone carving hall is rustic and imposing, while the Wang Xiu peony art exhibition brings Luoyang peonies into paintings, each showcasing a unique blend of strength and delicacy. You can start your visit from the "Heluo civilization" exhibition and stone carving hall on the first floor, then proceed to the second floor to explore the treasure hall, Tang tri-color glazed pottery hall, and imperial artifacts hall in detail. The treasure hall features rotating exhibitions, and the specific exhibits are subject to the on-site display. A thorough visit typically takes two to three hours, so it is recommended to allocate sufficient time. Luoyang Museum consistently organizes flexible and diverse temporary exhibitions, continuously providing the public with new cultural offerings. It has introduced exotic-themed exhibitions such as "Civilizations of Qin-Han and Rome," "Norwegian style painting exhibition," "African cultural relics and art exhibition," as well as independently curated large-scale temporary exhibitions like "The starting point of the Silk Road - the Silk Road and Luoyang" and "The hub of the Grand Canal - the Grand Canal and Luoyang," enriching the exhibition content and ensuring visitors always find something new. Adhering to its mission of reaching out, Luoyang Museum has independently or collaboratively held cultural relic exchange exhibitions in over 20 countries and regions, including the United States, France, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, and Australia, generating positive impacts both domestically and internationally. Luoyang Museum adheres to the organic integration of collection preservation, scientific research, and social education for balanced development. Practicing a people-oriented service philosophy, it enhances integration and interaction with society while excelling in exhibition reception and educational promotion. The museum actively recruits volunteers passionate about museum education, establishes cooperative units, and extends its reach to communities, schools, rural areas, and military camps to expand its coverage and influence. Additionally, it hosts monthly traditional culture lectures to disseminate heritage knowledge and cultivate museum audiences, achieving remarkable results. Luoyang Museum boasts a team of professionals with high academic standards. It has published numerous works and collections, with over 1,000 papers and representative publications including: "Han tombs at Shaogou in Luoyang," "Luoyang tri-colored glazed pottery of the Tang dynasty," "Bronze mirrors unearthed in Luoyang," "Han dynasty murals in Luoyang," "A collection of essays commemorating the 40th anniversary of Luoyang Museum," "Cultural treasures of Luoyang," "The charm of Luoyang—highlights of archaeological achievements in the Heluo region," "A history of the ancient capital Luoyang," "Research on Western Zhou bronze ware," "Heluo civilization," and more, all widely recognized by society and academia. In the era of promoting cultural development and prosperity, Luoyang Museum is bound to play an even greater role in the construction of socialist spiritual civilization.Luoyang · 64.6 km from Mianchi

Millennium City Park

Millennium City Park is located by the Longting Lake in Kaifeng, a large-scale historical and cultural theme park that faithfully recreates the Northern Song Dynasty's capital based on the famous painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" by artist Zhang Zeduan, following the original layout at a 1:1 scale. The park is divided into two sections by the Shuangting Bridge: the southern area recreates the bustling urban life of Bianjing, with taverns, teahouses, pawnshops, and artisan workshops lining the streets, where peddlers with shoulder poles and shouting shop assistants move about; while the northern area features imperial gardens, with lakeside halls and quadrangular courtyards standing by the water. Staff and vendors throughout the park wear Song-style attire, accompanied by ancient music and the rhythmic sounds of bells and drums, creating the illusion of "stepping into a painting and traveling back a thousand years in a single day." The architecture here offers visually striking highlights: the Rainbow Bridge spanning the Bian River replicates the famous bridge from ancient paintings, arching like a rainbow—watching grain barges pass beneath recreates the painting's ambiance. Fuyun Pavilion towers above all other structures with its crimson facade and golden-roofed eaves, offering panoramic garden views. The reconstructed Shangshan Gate mirrors Kaifeng's Northern Song dynasty city gates, standing majestic with resplendent paintings as the garden's most imposing structure. Waterside pavilions like Shuixin Xie, Double Pavilion Bridge, and Nine Dragons Bridge dot the emerald waters in picturesque harmony. The daytime highlight is the scattered live performances throughout the park: "Judge Bao inspecting the Bian River grain transport" unfolds on the water by Rainbow Bridge, "Squire Wang's daughter seeking a husband" brings the embroidered ball tossing matchmaking to the streets, and "Yue Fei unhorsing Prince Xiao Liang" stirs up dust with galloping hooves in the drill ground. Folk performances like cockfighting, stilt walking, cuju (ancient football), and pan drumming are interspersed throughout. Families with children can visit Fun Garden and Great Song Games to try archery, dart throwing, rope climbing, and hoop diving—experiencing every Song dynasty game from a thousand years ago—or dress in period costumes at Square Courtyard to take mock imperial exams. Street-side workshops showcase folk crafts like Bian embroidery, Zhuxian Town woodblock prints, official kiln porcelain, and dough figurines, where visitors can watch artisans at work. The park takes on a different face after nightfall: red lanterns light up one after another, and the streets are ablaze with lights, making it seem like a completely different place from daytime. The large-scale water show "Northern Song Dynasty: Splendid Dreams of Dongjing" is performed on Jinglong Lake. The entire show is connected by eight classic Song Dynasty poems and a scroll of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival," transporting the audience back to Dongjing of the Northern Song Dynasty a thousand years ago. The performance lasts approx. 70 minutes, and many travelers specifically reserve their itinerary for the evening to wait for this show. After the performance, you might as well climb the Shangshan Gate tower to overlook the park scenery and the night view of Kaifeng under the lights. Dining in the park is also convenient: the snack street and night market around the Dongjing food area gather Kaifeng snacks like soup dumplings and mutton pancake, perfect for eating while strolling; for a proper sit-down meal, head to Sunyang Restaurant, a recreation of the "main shop" depicted in paintings, and try traditional Henan dishes such as soup dumplings and carp with noodles.China · Kaifeng

Xi'an City Wall is a landmark of this ancient city. The city walls that we see now were built in the early years of the Ming dynasty and they are now more than 600 years old. The walls were built on the foundations of the imperial city of the Tang Dynasty and they are formed together with a series of defensive installments such as moats and turrets. At present, Xi'an City Wall can be accessed by many city gates. Visitors can choose the nearest one to them. The South Gate is the visitor entrance of Xi'an City and is also the city gate with more tourists. Cycling on the ancient walls is a good experience. Riding on the wall overlooking the ancient capital of the thirteenth dynasty, you will have a feeling of travelling through time.China · Xi'an

The Terracotta Army is absolutely amazing! It's incredibly impressive, completely different from what I've seen in textbooks. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself. Don't miss Lishan Garden; the bronze chariots and horses are definitely worth seeing. My friend and I entered the park around 9 AM and didn't leave until 6 PM. We went to Lishan Garden first, which was much less crowded. After lunch, when we went to see the Terracotta Army, it was even less crowded, ensuring we wouldn't miss any. Definitely listen to the guided tour! You probably won't understand everything on your own. After the tour, you can go back and explore the Terracotta Army at your own pace. We returned to Pit 1 around 5 PM, and there were practically no visitors, so we could happily take photos. Highly recommended!!! PS: The shuttle bus to Lishan Garden costs 15 yuan, which is essential because it's quite far and tiring on your legs. The shuttle bus to the Terracotta Army costs 5 yuan, but I personally don't think it's necessary; it's just a short walk. There's also a free shuttle bus between Lishan Garden and the Terracotta Army.

The Longmen Grottoes are renowned for their beautiful scenery and rich historical significance. Construction of the grottoes began in the 17th year of the Taihe reign of the Northern Wei Dynasty (493 AD) and continued until the Northern Song Dynasty. Among them, the Vairocana Buddha statue is considered a pinnacle of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Legend has it that the Buddha's face was modeled after that of Empress Wu Zetian! She has stood quietly on the banks of the Luo River for over 1400 years.

My trip to the Shaanxi History Museum was made possible by the wonderful explanations given by our guide, Ms. June. Her profound knowledge and engaging approach, rather than simply reciting from a textbook, transformed each artifact into a captivating and accessible narrative, clearly outlining the historical timeline of the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. Her lively and engaging explanations, coupled with her patient answers to questions, brought the millennia-old relics to life. What was initially a rushed visit became an immersive historical journey. Highly recommended!

There was a slight unpleasantness with the merchant's customer service when making the reservation, as I had booked a guided tour of the Longmen Grottoes, but the merchant's page description was incorrect and I requested a refund, which they refused. I only got a refund after contacting the platform's customer service. Because of this unpleasant experience, I didn't have high expectations for the tour. However, once inside the museum, Mr. Pei's explanation was truly dedicated, and he was a very kind person; it was clear he genuinely loved the experience. Special praise! 👍 He made up for the merchant's shortcomings! 👍

I felt climbing the city wall was definitely worth it. I saw some people complaining that they bought tickets for the North Gate but weren't allowed to go up to the South Gate, but I bought a ticket for the North Gate and was allowed up at the South Gate by swiping my ID card. I don't understand how that works. The weather was great; from the North Gate wall, I could see the Bell Tower and TV Tower alongside the Qinling Mountains, and from the South Gate, I saw the sunset.
