洪虹We took a sightseeing bus from the Lower Temple to the Upper Temple. The first thing that caught our eye upon disembarking was the shimmering glazed tiles of the Flying Rainbow Pagoda. The current pagoda was built in the sixth year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1527), and glazed tiles were added to the pagoda in the second year of the Tianqi reign of the Ming Dynasty (1622). It is the "world's tallest multicolored glazed pagoda." With Ming Dynasty blue bricks as its base, the yellow, green, and blue glazed tiles, despite centuries of weathering, remain vibrant. The 13-story octagonal pagoda gradually narrows, and the glazed components on each level are different, each layer unique, so exquisitely crafted that it's impossible to look away.

However, it also has drawbacks such as a long parking area and excessive commercialization in some areas.

Constructed by the local Wang family, it includes five alleys, six fortified courtyards, and a main street, covering an area more than 100,000 square meters larger than the Forbidden City. It is hailed as the "Folk Palace of China" and is renowned as the "Number One Residence of Chinese Folk Customs." Off-season admission is 30 yuan per person, quite cost-effective. The only drawback is its distance from Pingyao Ancient City; the road from Pingyao to the Wang Family Compound is dirty, dusty, and mountainous, becoming even dirtier, darker, and more difficult to traverse on snowy days.

After much detours, it took us nearly three hours to finally arrive at Xiaoxitian in Xi County. Xiaoxitian is like a magical treasure box, containing a vast world within a small room. In this mere 169.6 square meters, our eyes couldn't take it all in; we were completely immersed, reluctant to leave. We also followed wave after wave of tourists, listening to their explanations intermittently. From the very beginning, the hall was packed with people, and we stayed until evening when the crowds gradually dispersed before finally leaving. This wondrous journey to Xiaoxitian was truly unforgettable.

Standing on the viewing platform, letting the mist soak your clothes, the roar of the Yellow River fills your ears, and before your eyes lies the majestic power of "the Yellow River's waters coming from the heavens"—at that moment, you truly understand what it means to be a "symbol of national spirit." If you have enough time, you must descend to the Dragon Cave for a closer experience—looking up from below, the rushing river resembles a golden dragon cascading down; the dual impact of sight and sound is unforgettable. Beyond the breathtaking natural scenery, the exhibits on Yellow River culture within the scenic area are also very meaningful, evoking the millennia-long accumulation of Chinese civilization on this land. The only things to note are that spring and autumn offer the most stable water levels and scenery; summer's rains may cause excessive fog that obstructs visibility, and while winter offers spectacular icefalls, it can be quite cold.

You can take a bus to the waterfall entrance, which saves a lot of time. After getting off the bus, it's just a few minutes' walk to the waterfall. It's spectacular and worth seeing.

大白The full-price ticket for Shuanglin Temple in Pingyao is 35 yuan. Tickets can be purchased online through the "Pingyao Ancient City Scenic Area Official Service Platform" with real-name registration, with a 2 yuan discount, bringing the price down to 33 yuan. Tickets can also be purchased on-site. Seniors over 60 years old and active-duty military personnel are admitted free of charge upon presentation of valid identification. Students receive a 50% discount. Tickets are valid only on the day of purchase.

Shuanglin Temple is more worth visiting. A day and a night is probably the most you could do in Pingyao Ancient City.
