Jinan is beautiful, but I don't recommend visiting in October because it's just...

“Jinan is indeed beautiful in October, but the experience during the National Day holiday is compromised—paralyzed traffic, crowded attractions, and tourist traps on popular streets make it a classic case of "beautiful but discouraging." 🚗 Transportation: Traffic that makes you question life · Old town paralyzed: The Quancheng Road business district is the most congested area in the city.”@TrailBlazer@@@ · 12 hours ago

What an amazing adventure in Jinan! We visited the 47th floor, which offers a stunning view of the city at night! It was foggy that day, but it didn't stop us from enjoying the experience. For first-time visitors, when you approach the building, follow the red signs, enter the lobby, and go to the elevator. Take it to floor 45A. Then, follow the red signs down the hallway and up the colorful staircase. You'll be met there and asked to show the QR code.
A huge thank you to Trip.com for making adventures more accessible to foreigners! 😋🥰🤩

Jinan, China 🇨🇳 — The Enchanting City of Springs Where Old-World Charm Meets Everyday Life

Some cities impress you with towering skyscrapers, while others win your heart with quiet beauty. Jinan, the “City of Springs” in Shandong, China, is a destination that captures the soul through its flowing spring water, traditional streets, peaceful lakes and timeless Chinese charm.

My imagined perfect day in Jinan would begin with the gentle sound of flowing water, continue through charming old streets, and end beneath the golden glow of a traditional Chinese pavilion. It is a city that reminds us to slow down, breathe deeply and appreciate the beauty of simple moments. ✨

💧 1. Baotu Spring — The Heart of the City

Baotu Spring is one of Jinan’s most iconic attractions, famous for its crystal-clear water bubbling naturally from the ground. Surrounded by traditional pavilions, elegant gardens and ancient trees, the spring creates a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busy city.

Walking beside the water, watching the ripples shimmer in the sunlight and listening to the gentle splashes is a wonderfully calming experience. It is easy to understand why Jinan is celebrated as the City of Springs.

🌿 2. Daming Lake — A Picture-Perfect Escape

Daming Lake is a beautiful place to enjoy the quieter side of Jinan. With willow trees, traditional bridges, scenic pavilions and reflections dancing across the water, every corner offers a postcard-worthy view.

I especially love the idea of taking a slow walk along the lakeside, feeling the breeze and capturing the changing colours of the sky. When evening arrives, the illuminated traditional architecture creates a romantic atmosphere that feels almost like stepping into an ancient Chinese painting.

🏮 3. Qushuiting Street — Discover the Soul of Old Jinan

For me, the most charming way to experience a city is to wander through its old streets without rushing.

Qushuiting Street is known for its traditional houses, stone pathways and clear spring water flowing alongside everyday neighbourhood life. The combination of old architecture and gentle streams gives this historic area a unique character.

I love destinations that allow travellers to experience not only beautiful scenery but also the rhythm of local life. Here, a simple walk can become one of the most memorable moments of the journey.

🌉 4. Heihu Spring — A Hidden Gem for Spring Lovers

Heihu Spring offers another glimpse into Jinan’s remarkable spring culture. The sound of flowing water, the traditional stone surroundings and the nearby city moat create a lovely setting for a peaceful stroll.

It is a wonderful stop for photography, especially for travellers who appreciate natural scenery mixed with traditional Chinese architecture.

🍜 5. Taste the Flavours of Shandong

No trip to Jinan would be complete without exploring Shandong cuisine, known for its rich flavours and distinctive cooking traditions.

Look out for sweet and sour Yellow River carp, braised pork and Jinan’s traditional Youxuan pastry. Wandering through local food streets is also a lovely way to discover the city’s everyday culture, one delicious bite at a time.

📸 My Favourite Way to Experience Jinan

What makes Jinan special is not just its famous attractions, but the feeling it leaves behind. I love the contrast between lively streets and peaceful lakes, historic buildings and sparkling springs, traditional culture and modern city life.

If I were planning a relaxed getaway, I would spend the morning exploring Baotu Spring, enjoy a leisurely afternoon around Qushuiting Street and Daming Lake, then stay until evening to admire the beautiful illuminated architecture.

There would be no need to rush from one attraction to another. Sometimes, the best travel memories come from simply walking, observing and enjoying the moment.

✨ Travel Tips

📍 Best for: Culture lovers, photographers, couples and relaxed city explorers.

🚶 Getting around: Many attractions in the old city are close enough to explore on foot.

📷 Photography: Capture spring water, traditional bridges, willow-lined paths and evening reflections.

🗓️ Suggested stay: Two days is a comfortable starting point for exploring the main city highlights.

❤️ My final thoughts

Jinan is more than a destination filled with beautiful springs. It is a city of poetry, history and quiet romance, where water flows through the landscape and everyday life unfolds at a gentler pace.

I would love to wander along its old streets, watch the reflections on Daming Lake and experience the peaceful charm of this remarkable city. If you are looking for a destination that combines natural beauty, traditional Chinese culture and a relaxing atmosphere, Jinan deserves a place on your travel bucket list.

Sometimes, the most beautiful journeys are not about how many places we visit, but how deeply we feel each moment. 💙
